About The Position

Plays a key role in the final stages of custom stainless steel cabinet fabrication by performing assembly, detailing, cleaning, and packaging tasks that ensure every product meets Great Lakes Stainless quality standards before it leaves the shop. Collaborates daily with fabrication and production team members to complete final assembly, resolve minor fit and finish issues, and prepare finished goods for on-time delivery to customers.

Requirements

  • Ability to read, understand, and follow oral and written work instructions, blueprints, and shop drawings.
  • Working knowledge of fabrication materials, methods, hand tools, and power tools used in a metal fabrication or manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to work comfortably in a manufacturing shop environment, which may include variable lighting, temperature fluctuations, noise, and exposure to dust or metal particulate.
  • Ability to use hand tools and power tools safely and effectively, including drills, grinders, and fastening equipment.
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to identify surface defects, fit issues, and quality discrepancies in finished stainless steel products.
  • Ability to interpret shop drawings, blueprints, and work order specifications relevant to assembly and finishing tasks.
  • Ability to work efficiently in confined spaces and around large fabricated components.
  • Collaborative team player who communicates effectively with production leads, assemblers, and shipping staff to keep work moving on schedule.
  • Ability to lift and maneuver moderately heavy objects up to 50–90 pounds, with or without assistance.
  • Ability to perform the physical demands of a production role, including prolonged standing, walking, bending, stooping, and reaching throughout the shift.
  • Reliable attendance and punctuality; ability to consistently meet scheduled shift start times and maintain regular, dependable presence.
  • Commitment to producing high-quality work and taking pride in the finished product on every job.

Nice To Haves

  • Relevant vocational training, an apprenticeship, or up to 2 years of experience in manufacturing, fabrication, or a related production environment is preferred but not required.
  • Willingness to learn and grow within the role is highly valued.

Responsibilities

  • Support pre-fabrication and welding operations by performing tasks such as deburring cut edges, sorting parts and components, and peeling and applying protective film to stainless steel surfaces.
  • Complete final and light assembly of custom fabricated stainless steel cabinets and components in accordance with work orders, job travelers, and customer specifications.
  • Fit, install, and adjust doors, panels, hardware, and accessories to specification during final assembly.
  • Thoroughly clean, detail, and inspect finished cabinets to verify surface quality meets appearance and workmanship standards prior to packaging.
  • Remove weld spatter, dust, debris, adhesive residue, fingerprints, and surface imperfections from stainless steel and other finished materials.
  • Perform minor cosmetic touch-ups and fit corrections to ensure each unit meets quality expectations before shipment.
  • Apply protective packaging materials—including foam, wrapping, padding, and corner guards—to prevent damage during handling and transit.
  • Pack cabinets and components securely per shipping requirements, job specifications, and customer delivery instructions.
  • Label, organize, and stage finished products for scheduled shipment or customer pickup.
  • Verify product completeness and accuracy by cross-referencing work orders, job travelers, and packing lists before items leave the production floor.
  • Process job orders accurately and on time, ensuring travelers are completed with correct job and item numbers at each production stage.
  • Maintain accurate timekeeping by clocking in and out of shifts and job assignments in the E2 shop management system throughout the workday.
  • Consistently demonstrate a strong work ethic and quality focus, maintaining a productive pace that meets production goals and reflects well on the team.
  • Keep work area clean and organized at the end of each shift, including proper return and storage of tools, materials, and supplies.
  • Assist with loading, unloading, and moving raw materials, components, and finished products using safe material-handling practices.
  • Proactively identify and promptly report defects, damage, or quality concerns to supervisors to minimize rework and protect delivery schedules.
  • Adhere to all GLS safety protocols, PPE requirements, and quality standards at all times.
  • Participate in periodic inventory counts, including cycle counts and full physical inventories, by accurately counting, recording, and verifying stock of materials, components, and finished goods.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support production, finishing, and shipping operations as business needs require.
