About The Position

Join Mizuho as a Desktop Engineering Lead! In this role, you will be responsible for leading the team that designs, deploys, maintains, and supports the desktop infrastructure and administration of corporate applications. This is a hands-on leadership role requiring both deep technical expertise and strong people management skills. The Desktop Engineering Lead will oversee a team of desktop engineers, set strategic direction for the desktop environment, and serve as the primary escalation point and technical authority for all desktop engineering functions. This is a hybrid role with a requirement to work out of the NYC office one week per month.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Technical, engineering, computer science or equivalent experience.
  • At least 10+ years of experience supporting enterprise desktop environments in a mission-critical setting, with a minimum of 3-5 years in a team lead, manager, or director capacity.
  • The ability to solve problems via standard and non-standard methods.
  • Organized and methodical testing skills.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Strong scripting and automation expertise.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment supporting real-time market data and trading.
  • Good understanding of operating system administration (Windows).
  • Ability to document processes and procedures appropriately.
  • Demonstrated experience managing and mentoring technical teams, including hiring, performance management, and career development.
  • Proven ability to develop and execute a strategic technology roadmap in alignment with broader organizational goals.
  • Experience managing vendor relationships, budgets, and cross-functional stakeholder communications at a senior level.
  • Strong project management skills with the ability to prioritize and deliver multiple initiatives simultaneously.

Responsibilities

  • Leading, developing, and managing a team of desktop engineers responsible for hands-on development, standardization, automation and management of all desktop Windows 11 (or newer) image deployments and updates in the VDI and physical desktop infrastructure.
  • Administration of Active Directory Group policy including creating, editing, and evaluating GPOs that effect the desktop environment.
  • Deploying, managing and troubleshooting Windows operating systems to include application-level support.
  • Defining the design and architecture of desktop images, establishing standards and deployment frameworks using Microsoft MDT and SCCM, and overseeing their ongoing maintenance and evolution.
  • Maintaining and supporting virtual desktop (VDI) platform Omnissa Horizon View brokers, monitor availability and performance of physical and virtual desktop systems.
  • Automating solutions and changes for the desktop environment using scripting languages like Powershell or Python.
  • Packaging applications for automated deployment in Microsoft SCCM/Intune, Omnissa AppVolumes, or other packaging/virtualization technologies.
  • Managing images and updates to thin client hardware using HP Device Manager.
  • Serving as the final escalation point and technical authority for End User Support/Service Desk and Operations teams for application packaging and OS-related issues; drive root cause analysis and long-term resolution strategies.
  • Leading, mentoring, and developing a team of desktop engineers; set performance goals, conduct reviews, and foster a culture of continuous improvement and collaboration in supporting an enterprise level infrastructure.
  • Providing support off-hours when needed.
  • Defining and owning the strategic roadmap for the desktop engineering function, aligning technology decisions with business objectives and organizational growth.
  • Managing vendor relationships, licensing agreements, and procurement for desktop-related software and hardware, ensuring cost-effective and timely delivery.
  • Collaborating cross-functionally with Infrastructure, Security, Network, and Application teams to deliver integrated solutions and ensure desktop environments meet compliance and security standards.
  • Developing and managing team budgets, project timelines, and resource allocation to deliver engineering initiatives on schedule and within scope.
  • Establishing and enforcing engineering standards, documentation practices, and change management processes across the desktop engineering team.
