The Desk Receptionist (DR) is a residence hall staff member employed by the Department of Residential Life and the Department of Public Safety. This position provides safety and security to the residence hall and serves as a resource for residents. This is a part-time, 10-month position, including any holidays during which the residence hall front desks are open, with potential for summer employment. The role helps maintain a safe, respectful, and welcoming residence hall community within a Catholic, Jesuit liberal arts institution. Responsibilities include monitoring building access, assisting with guest check-ins and bag checks, enforcing rules regarding alcohol, drugs, tobacco, and other prohibited substances, and responding appropriately to safety, security, fire, weather, and medical emergencies. The role also requires staying alert, responding to radio and phone calls, protecting confidential student information, and following all Public Safety and Residential Life procedures. The position also focuses on providing friendly and respectful service to residents and guests, addressing residents’ needs, welcoming people entering and leaving the building, respecting student privacy and FERPA rights, maintaining accurate records and reports, submitting timecards on time, and keeping the front desk clean and organized. Employees must attend required trainings and meetings and complete other assigned duties. Finally, the position supports an inclusive community where everyone feels respected and welcome.
