Generally responsible for supervision and technical direction over a team of designers when functioning as a lead designer to support needs within Hargrove's Architectural division. As lead designer, responsibilities will include total delivery of the architectural deliverables and services on time, within performance budget and meeting quality expectations. Duties may include creating space programming, conceptual design, schematic design, design development, construction documents, and specifications. Additionally, construction administration, site visits, and submittal reviews are activities expected of this role. This level requires extensive active experience in commercial and industrial architectural design. Management skills are required for delegation of project time, tasks, assignments, research, and development. This work will be performed under general supervision. Primary responsibilities will include but not be limited to: Familiarity with and utilization of architectural design and drafting standards. Recognizing and communicating project scope, specifications, and design criteria upon assignment to a project task team. Requesting, reviewing, and comprehending the latest project information available regarding architectural layouts or drawings from other disciplines before initiating design effort on specific drawings. Creating in Revit architectural drawings and schedules under minimal supervision. Knowledge of basic architectural specifications to the extent that performance and design basis information required for execution, material purchase, fabrication, and construction is reflected on the finished drawings. Recognizing and communicating scope and design changes promptly. Performing field related work, collecting design information and verifying existing facility’s conditions, functions, and components; performing field support activities, where assigned, for architectural support during construction; assisting architects with cost and material estimates and preliminary design studies. Checking the accuracy and quality of drawings developed by other designers, when assigned, based on information conveyed by the client and architect, providing technical guidance to less experienced designers in the department. Coordinating & delegating work activities with other teammates and the discipline leads. Producing architectural scope of work documents. Producing architectural material take offs (MTOs). Serving as a mentor for entry level and new teammates. Completing complex and difficult designs and layouts for complete systems and components of projects. Assignments typically involve design elements for which there may be no clearly established precedents and require anticipation of problems at the outset in order to provide appropriate solutions. Performing front-end layout and design of complex facilities. Ensuring compliance with required specifications, tolerances, safety considerations, and client requirements. Performing interdisciplinary checks and providing coordination of data to ensure compatible designs. Assisting in the establishment or revision of guidelines and standards. Reviewing supplier data and supplier/manufacturer drawings, as required. Collaborating with engineering disciplines to ensure quality of design. Providing training to less experienced designers. Serving as Lead Designer on projects, ensuring compliance with building codes, as well as project and company standards. Preparing man-hour estimates as required. Responsible for the quality and economy of deliverables, and efficiency of detailing. As a lead designer, responsible for the design team meeting scope, schedule, and budget.
