About The Position

As a Designer III at Trane Technologies, you will be a key member of a high performing team of Product Development Engineers and Designers for Commercial Unitary Water Source Heat Pump (WSHP) Products. In this role, you will be responsible for drafting and designing the equipment and systems that meet our customers' requirements, including managing the documentation. You will contribute to developing concepts for new & improved commercial HVAC products and solve complex technical problems leading to production of sustainable new products. This will require an individual to be well-versed in CAD design and have the ability to work cross-functionally with global teams. In this role, you will also have opportunities to learn from some of the industry's best people, while having opportunities to develop leadership skills by working on and running projects that support the business.

Requirements

  • Associate’s Degree in Design or Engineering Technology (or related discipline) and at least 5-years of work experience in CAD design is required; OR an equivalent combination of education and relevant work experience will be considered in lieu of an Associate’s Degree.
  • Experience in SolidWorks, Creo Parametric or other modern CAD software.
  • Experience in project planning and scheduling.
  • Knowledge of designing equipment, drafting and computer aided design and applies knowledge to assigned tasks; or knowledge in product definition, product configuration, bills of materials and applies knowledge to tasks.
  • Skilled use of computer aided graphics system.
  • Ability to envision, apply and implement computer aided graphic solutions.
  • Good communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Promotes a specialized technical engineering “team” environment.
  • Knowledge and support of Corporate goals, objectives, or initiatives.
  • Possess developed technical skills, specialized expertise unique to a product or business site.
  • Provides and directs technical assistance to others.

Nice To Haves

  • Working knowledge and experience in assigned areas; change control, bill of material, product definition & selection, machine design, castings, fabrication, sheet metal, GD&T and tolerance analysis, electrical, electronics, heat transfer, piping and welding.
  • Good understanding of product configuration and product applications are a plus.
  • Creo experience a plus.
  • Knowledge of various Trane HVAC products.
  • An understanding of refrigeration cycle, controls or electrical devices and complex electrical wiring is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Work with Engineering to create parts, assemblies, and layouts in Creo Parametric.
  • Produce and develop designs and documentation utilizing computer design and product life cycle management systems.
  • Create necessary supporting documentation utilizing a multitude of systems and applications.
  • Ability to recognize and recommend possible solutions for potential design or product configuration problems.
  • Knows the degree of care and accuracy required of assignments and detects or corrects own errors as well as errors of others.
  • Translate verbal and/or written instructions into drawings of HVAC products.
  • In-depth knowledge and familiarity of all design and drafting standard practices, methods and processes.
  • Ability to make sketches, 2D and 3D engineering drawings and common computations.
  • Create assemblies and sheet metal parts utilizing 3D CAD modeling software.
  • Perform various forms of technical support, including answering questions from other departments relative to drawings or design data.
  • Adhere to all company safety and security policies and procedures.
  • Work with minor independent judgment under close direction of senior staff.
  • Manage project schedules and teams for assigned projects.
  • Able to direct tasks or efforts for self and potentially others on projects with the responsibility for completion of their own assignments.
