About The Position

Perkins&Will Seattle is looking for a Designer II with 3-5+ years of experience to join their team. The role involves using enhanced knowledge of project complexity to contribute to the success of the team by adhering to firm and project goals and standards of excellence in design, execution, and living design. The Designer II will assist in generating creative and innovative design ideas, concepts, and solutions, and will generate drawings under supervision for schematic design, design development, and construction documents. The position also includes performing product research, assisting with material selections, and using critical and creative judgment in preparing client presentation materials. The role requires a creative approach to completing tasks within scope, schedule, and budget, and self-checking work for accuracy and compliance. The Designer II will express curiosity about design and the industry, take ownership of tasks, participate in design reviews, and maintain open communication within the team and with partners and consultants.

Requirements

  • 3-5+ years of experience
  • Bachelor's degree in architecture or related discipline
  • Preparing for the ARE with active involvement in AXP
  • BIM proficiency, intermediate Revit, Rhino/Grasshopper
  • Familiarity with building codes, life safety requirements, and construction documents
  • Microsoft Office/Adobe Suite, Enscape or V-Ray, 3D printing/laser cutting a plus
  • LEED GA within 6 months of hire
  • One Living Design accreditation (LEED AP Specialty, BREEAM AP, WELL AP, SITES AP, CPHC/CPHD, or ILFI)

Responsibilities

  • Uses enhanced knowledge of project complexity to proactively contribute to the overall success of the team by adhering to firm and project goals and standards of excellence in design, execution, and living design.
  • Assists in generating creative and innovative design ideas, concepts, and solutions while participating as an integral member of the design team.
  • Generates drawings under supervision for schematic design, design development, and construction documents.
  • Performs product research and assists team with material selections.
  • Exercises critical and creative judgement and design application skills in preparing client presentation materials.
  • Uses a creative approach to complete tasks and responsibilities on projects, within the scope of schedule and budget, in an organized, timely, and consistent way.
  • Self-checks work for accuracy, omissions, legibility, and for document compliance in accordance with the Project Delivery Manual.
  • Expresses curiosity about the world of design and the industry at large.
  • Takes increasing ownership of tasks within project teams and studio activities.
  • Participates in design reviews, charettes, and pin-ups.
  • Keeps open communication within team and with designated team leader.
  • Communicates ideas and thoughts in a way that inspires others.
  • Coordinates effectively with partners and consultants.
