About The Position

We are seeking a Designer II to join our team in Walnut, CA. This role involves the design and layout of electrical systems, including power distribution, lighting, and low voltage systems. The position requires developing engineering calculations, preparing construction documents, coordinating with other disciplines, and conducting site visits. The Designer II will also support project submittal reviews, RFIs, and field coordination during construction administration, ensuring designs comply with codes and standards. Additionally, the role involves assisting with proposals, cost estimates, and project schedules, participating in quality assurance, and supporting project leadership activities such as tracking scope, budget, and schedule milestones. The position also includes mentoring junior designers and communicating project status updates.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field from an accredited institution.
  • 1-4 years of experience in electrical system design (power distribution, lighting, and/or low voltage systems), or equivalent internship/co-op experience.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD and/or Revit.
  • Working knowledge of applicable codes and standards (NEC, NFPA, IEEE).
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities, support task coordination, and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to travel as required.

Nice To Haves

  • Candidates with a strong technical aptitude and demonstrated interest in electrical design are encouraged to apply.
  • Experience with BIM coordination is preferred.
  • Experience with electrical design and calculation software (e.g., SKM, ETAP, Visual Lighting) is a plus.
  • Programming or scripting proficiency (e.g., Python, Excel/VBA) to support project tracking, reporting, and process automation is a plus.
  • Demonstrated interest in project management (e.g., coursework, certifications such as CAPM, or hands-on experience) strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Design and layout of electrical systems, including power distribution, lighting, and low voltage systems.
  • Develop engineering calculations including load calculations, voltage drop, and short circuit/coordination studies.
  • Prepare construction documents, including plans, one-line diagrams, panel schedules, details, and specifications.
  • Coordinate designs with other engineering disciplines, architects, and contractors.
  • Conduct site visits and surveys to document existing conditions and support construction.
  • Support project submittal reviews, RFIs, and field coordination during construction administration.
  • Ensure designs follow applicable codes and standards (NEC, NFPA, IEEE) and client requirements.
  • Assist in the preparation of proposals, cost estimates, and project schedules.
  • Participate in quality assurance and peer review processes.
  • Support project leadership activities, including tracking scope, budget, and schedule milestones for assigned design tasks or small projects.
  • Assist project managers with resource planning, task assignment, and progress tracking across the design team.
  • Lead or co-lead internal design coordination meetings and track action items across disciplines.
  • Apply computer science/programming skills to build or improve project tracking tools, dashboards, and workflow automation.
  • Mentor junior designers on tools, processes, and standards.
  • Communicate project status updates to clients and senior management as needed.
