About The Position

Target is seeking a highly creative and detail-oriented Designer to support their Decorative Accessories – Botanicals category. This role involves conceptualizing, developing, and delivering stylish new products for Target-owned brands. The Designer will work closely with merchant and sourcing counterparts to ensure product design aligns with merchant line plans, assortment strategies, price points, and overall creative direction. The position requires staying ahead of industry trends, new materials, and techniques, and creating products that offer exceptional design and quality for the price. The Designer will manage their own process and calendar, maintain timely communication with partners, and support concepts throughout the development process, including material selection and silhouette creation. They will also collaborate with technical designers and sourcing partners to resolve product issues. The role is performed on-site 4 days per week at Target's Downtown MN HQ campus.

Requirements

  • Four-year degree in Design, Fine Art or related field, or equivalent experience
  • 3+ years of relevant experience
  • Computer design system skills including InDesign, Illustrator and Photoshop
  • Experience in CAD illustration or 2D/3D software
  • Knowledge of textiles, garment construction/fit or raw materials & product production
  • Experience assimilating product feedback
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Experience working in a retail or product development environment
  • Ability to build relationships in order to successfully work in a team environment
  • Ability to respond to business objectives with creative, innovative and cost-effective design solutions

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in accessories design, fashion/textiles, decorative accessories, or home décor preferred.
  • Strong passion for floral arrangements and décor styling.
  • Understanding of interior design and a broad range of aesthetics.
  • Ability to translate trends and consumer insights into compelling, guest-centric product.
  • Highly organized, collaborative, and comfortable working within a team with high expectations, while also operating autonomously and taking ownership of their workstream.

Responsibilities

  • Support and be responsible for Owned Brand product brands and/or categories that achieve overall product design strategy and merchant objectives.
  • Work with an assigned category, brand, business or guest segment and manage your own process and calendar.
  • Maintain a diligent approach to workload, which includes timely communication with internal and external partners.
  • Support and drive concepts throughout the development process, research, selection of materials/finishes, and the creation of silhouettes/form language.
  • Using CAD/hand sketches, translate ideas for product direction.
  • Prepare professional presentation boards with illustrations, CAD artwork, fabrication, and material samples.
  • Support and drive product designs to maintain overall creative direction, merchant line plans, assortment strategies, and price points.
  • Build brand cohesion by partnering with peers across the division to ensure continuity.
  • In collaboration with technical designers/engineers and sourcing partners, identify, troubleshoot and resolve product issues.
  • Run their area like their own business, proactively identifying opportunities and challenges, driving work forward, maintaining exceptional attention to detail, and seeking feedback and alignment from leadership.
