About The Position

Russell Hendrix Foodservice Equipment is seeking a Designer - Food Service (Commercial Kitchen Designer) to join our Contracts team in Calgary or Vancouver. In this role, you will play a key part in delivering innovative, client‑focused kitchen design solutions, combining technical expertise with strong relationship management. You will be responsible for designing functional, efficient, and code-compliant commercial kitchens while supporting the sales process from concept through to project execution. Requirements

  • Diploma or degree in Interior Design, Institutional Management, Project Management, or a related field
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in commercial kitchen design or a similar technical design role
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, with demonstrated experience producing design drawings
  • Experience working with foodservice operations, including workflow, efficiency, and applicable codes
  • Knowledge of construction principles, including mechanical and electrical coordination
  • Familiarity with permits, licenses, and regulatory requirements related to commercial kitchen design
  • Strong ability to translate client needs into functional, efficient design solutions
  • Ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects and competing deadlines
  • High level of attention to detail and accuracy in drawings and documentation
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage clients and internal teams
  • Adaptability and flexibility in response to changing priorities
  • Proficiency in collaborating across teams to deliver cohesive project outcomes

Responsibilities

  • Develop 2D Commercial Kitchen drawings to reflect project requirements and design criteria.
  • Meet with prospective clients to assess needs and costs for design / projects.
  • Collaborate with the Estimating and Project Management teams to align on scope, timelines, and design fees.
  • Collaborate with co-workers and superiors to ensure exceptional quality of design and customer service.
  • Prepare design drawings and recommend commercial kitchen equipment based on clients’ needs.
  • Ensure design guidelines and construction specifications are respected during production of drawings.
  • Ensure that building codes and standards are met.
  • Travel to client sites as needed to support project assessments, design discussions, and site coordination.
