About The Position
Summit Polymers is hiring a Designer, Engineering for technical design work involving complex plastic components and assemblies using CAD tools. Work may begin from specifications, sketches, models, prototypes, or verbal communications. The position supports the Design Manager and Technical Manager with quoting, design for assembly (DFA), failure mode and effects analysis (FMEA), design progress assessment, and ongoing improvement of design standards. The designer also participates in KBPD procedures and works under general supervision.
Requirements
- Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering Graphics, or some college instruction in an engineering or engineering graphics curriculum and three years of design experience.
- Ability to think in three dimensions and visualize solid forms and spaces.
- Minimum score of 70 on the Spatial Relations test.
- Minimum score of 50 on the Wonderlic Select Assessment, or a traditional score of 26 on its cognitive portion.
- Minimum score of 70 on the Mechanical Reasoning test.
- Experience using NX or CATIA, or both.
Responsibilities
- Design assemblies and subparts using computer-aided design stations to produce plastic injection-molded automotive interior components.
- Participate in design feasibility work and use DFA and FMEA to develop initial design direction with the team.
- Create CAD files with correct file organization.
- Attend relevant meetings with customers, tool shops, manufacturing, engineering, sales, laboratory, and fixturing teams.
- Assist the Design Manager in reviewing the functionality, reliability, manufacturability, fixturing, and ease of assembly of design programs.
- Comply with the environmental policy and applicable quality and environmental management system instructions.
- Comply with the Workplace Safety and Health Policy and applicable instructions.
- Complete other tasks and duties as assigned.
- Complete all required post-hire training.
