About The Position

GFT Infrastructure, Inc. is seeking a Designer, Architecture to join our team in Chicago, IL. This role offers a hybrid work environment, allowing for remote work a portion of each week. The Designer will be responsible for preparing project documentation, including plans and details, and performing initial setup work. They will generate take-offs for cost estimates and conduct architectural calculations, such as square footage, to support the design of architectural systems, components, or features. The role involves gathering product information and cut sheets for cost estimating and specifications, supporting studies and reports, and assisting with the preparation of routine technical reports. Responsibilities also include setting up sheet sets on project drawings, managing drawing schedules, plans, elevations, sections, details, and specifications. The Designer will assist with incorporating redline markups on drawings and completing associated work. Additionally, they will create 3D imaging using proprietary software for client and internal presentations, learn basic code evaluation procedures, and coordinate work with other team members. During construction, the Designer will support assigned tasks such as submittals, RFIs, and supplemental work, including sketches or submittal reviews. Effective communication skills are essential for internal collaboration and presentations. A portfolio may be requested during the interview process. Little national travel may be involved, not exceeding 60 days per year or 5 days per trip, to client sites, project locations, or conferences. The company may conduct background checks, including drug screens and motor vehicle record checks. Sponsorship is not offered for this position.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s in Architecture, Architectural Engineering, or related field
  • 2 years relevant experience in architecture
  • 2 years experience in reading and interpreting architectural and engineering drawings
  • 2 years experience in Revit
  • 2 years experience in SketchUp
  • 2 years experience in graphic software including AutoCad, Enscape, Photoshop, and Illustrator

Responsibilities

  • Prepare project documents including plans, details, and initial setup work.

  • Learn basic code evaluation procedure and information gathering requirements for review with supervisor.
  • Coordinate work with other team members.
  • Project work during construction as assigned by supervisor including submittal tasks, RFIs, supplemental work including sketches, or submittal review process.
  • Use effective communication skills for internal communications with team and supervisor, and for assigned presentations.
