About The Position

The position of Designated Requestor for the Center for Organ Recovery & Education (CORE) is one of significant responsibility. They are responsible for supporting and educating the potential donor’s legal next-of-kin (LNOK) regarding donation options. The Designated Requestor conducts discussion of authorization based on donor designation (i.e., authorization first-person via the donor registry, when applicable) or requests authorization for donation from LNOK. This position assists with strategies and activities to improve the donation process. The Designated Requestor reports to CORE’s Director of Clinical Operations. When involved in donor activity, however, the Designated Requestor works under the direction of the CORE Administrator On Call (AOC). The Designated Requestor is responsible for approaching potential donor families to provide education on donation options and to provide support through the decision making process. The Designated Requestor will be responsible to respond to the entire Donor Service Area (DSA) at any time of the day or night, when they are on call. They will primarily approach non-designated donors, and may also be used for difficult approaches of designated pateints. Additionally, the Designated Requestor will be responsible for donor evaluation and management of potential and actual donors within CORE’s service area and, in some cases, hospitals throughout the United States and Canada. They will be responsible for knowing and working within CORE and national policies regarding organ and tissue recovery and distribution. They will be responsible for communicating donor case outcomes to donor families, donor hospitals, physicians, and other healthcare professionals as deemed necessary. They occasionally will assist the CORE Professional Services Liaison team in delivering educational programs for healthcare professionals and attending key physician meetings as requested. They may be assigned other job-related functions by the Director of Clinical Operations and/or members of CORE’s Leadership Team.

Requirements

  • Must be a registered nurse, physician’s assistant or paramedic.
  • Must have a four-year degree in one of the health sciences, or prior experience with an Organ Procurement Organization.
  • Must have strong communication, interpersonal skills and sound judgment.
  • Must be able to work 24 hours a day, seven days a week while on the call schedule.
  • Must possess the ability to lift and carry equipment weighing sixty 60 pounds or more.
  • Must demonstrate a commitment to the donation process, strong professional work ethic and advanced leadership skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Critical care experience is desirable.
