About The Position

This individual is responsible for creating designs and drawings prepared directly from information submitted on a company order form, client’s customer selection sheet, repeated from previous jobs, or from information developed by a design manager. The role involves collaborating with outside sales personnel and customers to ensure the creation of safe and quality structures, assuring stability, deflection, and load carrying capabilities that meet or surpass relevant codes. The Design Technician must follow quality control procedures for completeness, accuracy, and code compliance, and confer with clients, technical staff, and other Design Services personnel to make necessary design modifications. The position also entails developing and completing design details from original concept drawings, preparing layouts, writing technical descriptions, and reviewing designs for efficient and profitable use of resources. A commitment to quality improvement and continuous improvement is expected.

Requirements

Associate’s degree (A. A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; or six months to one-year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents.
Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.
Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format.
Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.
Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry.
Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
Ability to use close vision (clear vision at 20 inches or less) and color vision (ability to identify and distinguish colors).

Responsibilities

Demonstrate a commitment to the quality improvement process and continuous improvement.
