About The Position

Unlicensed Design Professional that supports development of design and documentation. At the Design Technician II level, the individual begins to assume some individual responsibility for producing portions of design and documentation.

Requirements

  • Professional BArch or master’s in architecture
  • 6+ years’ experience in architectural practice or related position.
  • 4+ years creating design solutions.
  • Advanced Computer and Information Management Skills
  • Revit, AutoCAD current versions
  • MS Office Suite – Excel, Word, MS Project
  • 3D Rendering capability

Responsibilities

  • Supports development of design and documentation.
  • Assumes some individual responsibility for producing portions of design and documentation.
  • Responsible for specific technical design aspects of an assigned major project, including investigation, evaluation, and recommendation of design solutions that best meets the client’s needs.
  • Provides professional architectural consultation in the planning, design, and coordination of large complex projects.
  • Independently applies advanced architectural concepts and designs.
  • Carries out complex or novel assignments requiring the development of new or improved techniques and procedures.
  • Provides technical guidance to less experienced architects.
  • Maintains and initiates frequent communication with JCJ team members to sustain proper information flow.
  • Fully participates in designated project meetings, both virtual and in-person.
  • Leads certain meetings with the consultant and internal team.
  • Demonstrates proficiency at written communication in email and virtual communication via JCJ virtual meeting software.
  • Prepares meeting notes using standard JCJ formats.
  • Performs self-checking of work and conveys questions or concerns to Project team leadership.
  • Performs checking of junior staff level work, when requested.
  • Participates in the formulation of work and scheduling strategies with JCJ team and adheres to established project schedules.
  • Adheres to JCJ established conventions for digital file keeping and assists in promoting this practice to project team.
  • Coordinates work with internal JCJ project team and sub-consultants.
  • Participates in the preparation and delivery of presentations to clients both physically and virtually.
  • Assumes leadership of selected portions of presentations.
  • Refines a portfolio in one market sector.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of time management skills required to work on multiple projects of all sizes.
  • Demonstrates creativity in design and the ability to adapt design solutions to a variety of building types.

  • Researches manufacturers and selects appropriate construction materials, systems, and assemblies from viewpoint of function, client preference, aesthetics and cost; coordinates with team members, and incorporates accurate information into drawings.
  • Delegates the task of selections to junior staff on certain projects.
  • Supports business development activities by creating presentation collateral including digital or physical finish boards, visual slide-deck presentations.
  • Produces building project documentation from concept through construction documents.
  • Obtains and assembles data to complete drawings.
  • Creates schedules and details for partition types and doors.
  • Delegates the task of creating schedules and details to junior staff on certain projects.
  • Creates detail drawings for floor, wall and roof assemblies.
  • Develops awareness and application of industry construction best practices.
  • Remains current with JCJ Technical Bulletins.
  • Produces construction documents under the direction of the Project Architect, utilizing architectural graphic conventions of line weight, scale and sheet organization.
  • Adheres to JCJ conventions for Revit/AutoCAD standards, file and drawing organization.
  • Performs site observation, including photographic and dimensional notes to document existing conditions; coordinates with Project Team.
  • Performs numeric tasks such as square footage calculations, device counts, and material quantity take offs for budgeting purposes.
  • Assembles collected information into budget formats that allow for assigning costs.
  • Delegates the task of assembling collected information into budget formats to junior staff on certain projects.
  • Demonstrates knowledge about Building, ADA and Life/Fire safety codes, their industry wide applications and impact upon space planning.
  • Interprets applicable local, federal and state accessibility, building and fire codes.
  • Prepares Code Survey and Code Drawings for project.
  • Notifies team members of possible conflicts between design and code.
  • Assists the PM in all necessary work for zoning review and approval process compliance.
  • Actively maintains resource materials and data base in physical and digital libraries.
  • Demonstrates and refines knowledge of Materials, Systems and Equipment costs.
  • Demonstrates understanding of manufacturers’ specifications and the creation of the Project Specifications.
  • Accurately performs numeric tasks such as square footage calculations, device counts, and material quantity take offs for budgeting purposes.
  • Assembles collected information into budget formats that allow for assigning costs.
  • Makes financial recommendations to clients.
  • Implements cost management strategies in collaboration with Project Leadership.
  • Actively participates in value engineering exercises, both to suggest alternatives and to incorporate accepted changes.
  • Answers RFI’s and coordinates responses with project team.
  • Reviews shop drawings and submittals using JCJ software.
  • Files reviewed materials effectively.
  • Coordinates with construction manager/contractor/procurement client team.
  • Attends regular construction phase meetings.
  • Coordinates with JCJ internal CA team and processes.
  • Assumes special projects and duties as assigned or requested.
