About The Position

This individual is responsible for creating designs and drawings prepared directly from information submitted on a company order form, client’s customer selection sheet, repeated from previous jobs, or from information developed by a design manager. The role involves collaborating with outside sales personnel and customers to ensure the accurate completion of safe and quality structures, while also assuring stability, deflection, and load carries in a manner that meets or surpasses project codes. The position requires adherence to quality control procedures for completeness, accuracy, and code compliance in the implementation of design standards. The technician will also confer with clients, technical staff, and other Design Services personnel to prepare design modifications as needed, and develop design details from original concept drawings, preparing layouts. Additionally, the role involves drawing rough sketches or arranging for finished drawings or photographs to illustrate specified materials or assembly sequences, writing technical descriptions specifying material qualities and properties, and reviewing designs for the most efficient and profitable use of inventory, equipment, and labor as time permits. A commitment to the quality improvement process and continuous improvement is expected. Other duties may be assigned.

Requirements

  • Associate’s degree (A. A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; or six months to one-year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents.
  • Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.
  • Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format.
  • Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.
  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry.
  • Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
  • Ability to frequently stand and sit.
  • Ability to occasionally walk.
  • Ability to occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to use close vision (clear vision at 20 inches or less).
  • Ability to use color vision (ability to identify and distinguish colors).
