About The Position

Cambly is seeking a talented, hands-on Design Systems Designer passionate about building the infrastructure for great products and changing the way people learn languages. The role involves designing and building Cambly's design system as a project, including a structured, variable-based token architecture (color, spacing, type, etc.) and a documented component library with theming support. The designer will modernize the existing system with clear usage rules, write precise specs and documentation for designers, engineers, and AI coding agents, and contribute to a fast-moving design team. This role aims to free up product designers to focus on high-craft areas of Lexicon.

Requirements

  • Mid-to-senior-level, hands-on design systems expert.
  • Track record of building and maintaining design systems with tokens, theming, and component libraries in Figma using a variable-based token architecture.
  • Systems and codification mindset: able to translate design intent into precise, unambiguous rules and documentation.
  • Strong, well-rounded digital product designer at core.
  • Experience (and deep curiosity) working with AI as part of the core development flow.
  • Self-directed and comfortable operating without a fully perfected process or handoff.
  • Proven ability to communicate clearly and collaborate with both design and engineering stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Design and build Cambly's design system as a project.
