About The Position

As a Staff Design Researcher at Walmart, you will lead user-centered research initiatives to enhance product experiences by synthesizing qualitative and quantitative data. This role requires collaboration with stakeholders to align business goals with user needs, driving informed design strategies. You will manage research projects, identify key insights, and communicate findings to influence product development. Your expertise in user experience, research methodologies, and stakeholder engagement will support continuous improvement and innovation, ensuring solutions deliver meaningful value to customers and the business. About the team: The Sam’s Club Experience Design team creates impactful experiences across clubs, digital platforms, and associate tools. This team leads strategic design research to enhance organizational insight and empathy. Senior Managers combine hands-on research with leadership, mentoring researchers to deliver high-quality insights that influence business decisions. The team values creativity, strategic thinking, and effective storytelling to translate data into actionable recommendations. Collaboration and stakeholder engagement are essential, ensuring research drives meaningful value and measurable impact throughout the organization.

Requirements

  • Proven expertise in user-centered design and user experience (UX) methodologies to inform research strategies and design improvements.
  • Strong skills in qualitative and quantitative design research, including user interviews, surveys, and contextual inquiries.
  • Ability to analyze and synthesize complex data sets to identify gaps and develop actionable insights.
  • Experience engaging and managing stakeholder relationships to align research outcomes with business objectives.
  • Proficiency in communicating research findings clearly to influence product and technical decisions.
  • Knowledge of usability testing, iteration processes, and research ethics to ensure valid and reliable results.
  • Bachelor's degree in UI/UX design, graphic design, visual communication, product design, computer science, information technology, or related area and 4 years’ experience in market research, business analysis, UX design research, or related area.
  • OR 6 years' experience in market research, business analysis, UX design research, or related area.

  • Master's degree in UI/UX Design, Interactive and Visual Design, Product Design, or related area
  • Related industry experience (for example, retail, supply chain, eCommerce, healthcare)
  • Research or design certification (for example, IDEOU - Foundations in Design Thinking Certificate)
  • Background in creating inclusive digital experiences, demonstrating knowledge in implementing Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 AA standards, assistive technologies, and integrating digital accessibility seamlessly.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct user research employing qualitative and quantitative methods to uncover insights and inform design strategies.
  • Analyze user behavior and market trends to identify gaps and opportunities for enhancing user experience.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to align research objectives with business goals and communicate findings effectively.
  • Develop and lead research plans, ensuring ethical standards and organizational requirements are met.
  • Synthesize data from multiple sources to generate actionable recommendations for product and interaction design improvements.
  • Facilitate usability testing and iterate designs based on user feedback and performance metrics.
  • Build and maintain strong partnerships across teams to support research integration and influence decision-making.
