About The Position

The Design Release Engineer will join the Powertrain Engineering team, which specializes in design, development, and release for automatic transmissions and electric drive modules. The role focuses on gearbox park-lock actuators and park-system components and is responsible for specifying and maintaining functional, performance, mechanical, electronics, and software requirements. The engineer will work within the COE (Council of Excellence) for mechatronics systems for automatic transmissions and e-machine gear reducers, providing technical support and leadership to the transmission and driveline product release center engineering team for propulsion-system components. The position calls for expertise in park-lock actuation functional requirements for ICE and BEV vehicles, vehicle functional safety, and park-by-wire and shift-by-wire systems.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related degree field.
  • At least 5 years of experience in design and release of actuator components, including gears, bearings, bushings, shafts, and glass-reinforced plastic housings.
  • Significant virtual analysis and CAE design experience.
  • Strong interpersonal communication and team leadership skills.
  • Comfort presenting to executive leadership teams.
  • Expertise in park-lock actuation system functional requirements for ICE and BEV vehicles.
  • Knowledge of vehicle functional safety and in-depth understanding of park-by-wire and shift-by-wire systems.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Working-level experience with suppliers of automatic transmission and EDM gear-reducer components.
  • Greenbelt or Blackbelt DFSS certification.

Responsibilities

  • Design and release assigned key components and performance standards for automatic transmissions, electric drive modules, and driveline actuators.
  • Lead and ensure key component design SSTS, best practices, lessons learned, and continuous improvements are followed and integrated into the product design release process.
  • Lead technical infrastructure for key components, including documentation, specifications, requirements definitions, and drawing signoffs for supplier and tier 1, 2, and 3 components.
  • Lead and support warranty- and quality-related topics.
  • Coach, train, and mentor less experienced engineers.
  • Specify and maintain functional, performance, mechanical, electronics, and software requirements.
  • Provide technical support and leadership within the transmission and driveline product release center engineering team for propulsion-system components.
