Requirements

  • Graduation from a recognized college or university with a bachelor’s degree in math, computer science, information systems, electrical engineering, data communications, network engineering, telecommunications management, or a related field. Qualifying experience in addition to that listed below may substitute for the required education on a year-for-year basis provided that the requirement of a high school diploma or equivalent is met.
  • Six years of direct experience designing, engineering, implementing and configuring enterprise network infrastructure systems.
  • The aforementioned experience must include two years of designing LAN/WLAN and VoIP technologies into an enterprise IT infrastructure.
  • Ability to safely lift and carry tools and materials weighing up to 50 pounds
  • A valid driver’s license to legally operate a motor vehicle in the state of California and the use of a motor vehicle.
  • Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP) is required.

Nice To Haves

  • One year of camera, intrusion, and public address systems is preferable.
  • Cisco Certified Internetwork Expert, Cisco Certified VoIP certifications, Alcatel and Aruba are highly preferable.
  • Knowledge of VoIP, QoS, SIP, video conferencing, and video streaming
  • Knowledge of LAN/WAN internetworking
  • Knowledge of Wi-Fi, Cisco and Aruba Technology
  • Knowledge of IEEE 802.x networking standards
  • Knowledge of Cisco and Aruba WLAN technologies
  • Knowledge of IP multicasting and troubleshooting
  • Knowledge of Cisco routers and HP, Alcatel, Cisco switches
  • Knowledge of Protocols including TCP/IP, OSPF, BGP, NetBIOS, DHCP, LDP, MBGP, MPLS, NAT64, IPv6, OSPFv3, TFTP, HTTP, and IPsec
  • Knowledge of IP classes, subnets, multicasts, and NAT
  • Knowledge of Network analysis tools
  • Knowledge of LAN/WLAN/WAN camera, intrusion alarms, public address design, integration, and implementation
  • Knowledge of Principles of LAN/WLAN/WAN/multimedia network design, traffic engineering, network security administration, encryption technologies, software, and applications
  • Knowledge of Genetect Video Management Systems
  • Knowledge of DMP Intrusion Systems
  • Knowledge of Valcom IP solutions
  • Ability to install and configure wired and wireless LAN equipment such as Aruba, Alcatel-Lucent, Cisco, and HP
  • Ability to implement and integrate multivendor VoIP systems including Avaya Communication Servers, Cisco Unified Communications Manager (CallManger), Cisco Unity messaging servers, TelePresence, firewalls, routers, and switches
  • Ability to implement and configure SIP trunk and endpoints
  • Ability to perform root cause and trend analysis
  • Ability to perform capacity analysis and planning
  • Ability to configure IP based Public Address Systems such as Singlewire InformaCast
  • Ability to actively resolve network problems, failures, and performance issues
  • Ability to provide design enhancements to existing networks and develop new network capabilities
  • Ability to work well under pressure and manage multiple large projects simultaneously
  • Ability to produce and maintain documentation of complex network implementations
  • Ability to formulate and express ideas clearly and effectively orally and in writing

Responsibilities

  • Supervises the work of lower-level technicians and contractors engaged in assisting and implementing the internetworking infrastructure systems throughout the District.
  • Plans, designs, and implements LAN/WLAN, camera, intrusion, video access control, voice, and video convergence integration.
  • Implements and manages Internet Protocol Telephony (IPT) deployment in a call management cluster environment with unity voice integration.
  • Performs design, implementation and performance engineering analysis, and diagnosis of large complex infrastructure network systems.
  • Assists in developing architectures, specifications and planning for enterprise-wide tactical and strategic requirements, system definition, and feasibility determination within a complex systems environment.
  • Assists in the development and implementation of a multi-system capacity plan. Integrates and schematically depicts communication architectures, topologies, hardware, software, transmission and signal links, and protocols into system configurations.
  • Manages or performs network installation, configuration, and ongoing maintenance including field services.
  • Analyzes converged IT systems, and wide area networks (WAN), and circuits.
  • Evaluates new products and technologies, performs network problem resolution, and assists in the development and documentation of technical standards, procedures and interface applications.
  • Assesses enterprise-wide network and infrastructure including hardware, software and protocols for compatibility, performance, optimization and scalability and makes recommendations for improvement.
  • Acts as the project leader on enterprise-wide assignments for the implementation of existing and emerging or new District-level technologies.
