About The Position

SharkNinja is seeking a Design Manager to lead the mechanical engineering team for a new generation of Shark home environment products. This is a hands-on leadership role responsible for technical direction from concept to mass production, managing and developing a team of engineers, and collaborating with a global product development organization. The ideal candidate has an appliance design mindset, understands mechanisms, and can solve complex problems. They should be proficient in both conceptualization and detailed engineering reviews, manage multiple programs effectively, and lead with honesty, high standards, and a focus on execution.

Requirements

  • 7-10 years of mechanical or product design engineering experience, with a track record of taking products to mass production.
  • 2+ years managing engineers, including hiring, development, and performance management.
  • Hands-on CAD in SolidWorks or Creo at a high level.
  • Real experience with DFMEA, tolerance analysis, and DFM.
  • Injection-molded plastic part design and tooling experience.
  • Strong mechanism design instincts.
  • Comfortable in the lab: prototyping, testing, documenting results, and feeding findings back into design.
  • Fluent in high-volume manufacturing processes and their design constraints.
  • Familiarity with electromechanical systems (motors, sensors, PCBAs).
  • Ability to work well under tight deadlines and manage multiple concurrent programs without losing track.
  • Comfortable with ambiguity and approaching unclear specifications as problems to solve.
  • Proactive approach to meeting constraints and late requirements.
  • Enjoys working with people across functions and geographies.
  • Self-directed and organized.
  • Willing to travel internationally, including Asia and Europe. Passport required.
  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Product Design Engineering, or Industrial Design Engineering.

Nice To Haves

  • Appliance design background strongly preferred.
  • Consumer goods or household appliance experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Own design execution from concept through production, including CAD, prototyping, DFMEA, tolerance analysis, tooling design, DFM reviews, and validation testing.
  • Design and develop mechanisms, considering movement, wear, failure modes, and design solutions.
  • Build and test prototypes in the lab, iterating based on findings.
  • Translate requirements and customer feedback into engineering solutions.
  • Lead DFM and DFA reviews with manufacturing partners, primarily in China, identifying risks and driving decisions.
  • Run DFMEA and tolerance stack-up analyses to identify failure modes and design margin.
  • Manage 2-4 direct reports, setting expectations, developing skills, and providing feedback, including hiring.
  • Manage multiple concurrent programs at different stages of development, maintaining clear priorities.
  • Lead engineering communication to executive leadership, focusing on progress, risk, and decisions.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional partners including Product Management, Industrial Design, Operations, Sourcing, and Quality.
  • Travel internationally to manufacturing and development partners in Asia and Europe (approximately 4-8 trips per year).
