Iron Mountain is seeking a skilled Design Manager to join our North America Design team. In this role, you will be responsible for leading the delivery of complex design scopes for data center new builds, customer fit-outs, phased expansions, and operational upgrades. Operating with high autonomy, you will direct multidisciplinary consultants and coordinate internal stakeholders to deliver safe, compliant, resilient, and commercially effective solutions.
Requirements
- Typically 5–9 years of relevant experience in data centers, mission-critical facilities, or complex, services-led technical environments.
- Strong working knowledge of multidisciplinary data center design (mechanical, electrical, controls, architectural, civil) alongside relevant codes, standards, and permitting processes.
- Commercial awareness to balance design choices against capital costs, coupled with strong negotiation, written, and presentation skills.
- A University degree in Architecture, Mechanical/Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline.
- U.S. Citizenship
- Ability to travel up to 25%
Responsibilities
- Manage the end-to-end design delivery of building systems, major packages, or defined project phases from brief through construction support and commissioning handover.
- Lead external design consultants while coordinating developers, equipment manufacturers, contractors, and internal cross-functional partners in accordance with Iron Mountain standards.
- Establish package-level design plans, deliverables, decision dates, and review gates, continuously assessing risks to provide evidence-based recommendations.
- Provide accurate design reporting, support site due diligence and permitting, ensure adherence to global standards, and mentor less experienced colleagues.
