This position is for a May 24, 2027 start date. This position may have the possibility to extend beyond the internship’s initial term based on the candidate’s successful performance and Xcel Energy’s business needs.

Requirements

  • Current student, Sophomore or higher
  • Enrolled in an ABET accredited college or university and pursuing a degree in electrical, mechanical or civil engineering.
  • Occasional travel to meet with engineers & interns at downtown facilities, and sister plant (Prairie Island)
  • Able to work full-time during the summer (up to 40 hours a week)/ part time during the school year (up to 20 hours a week) and commuting to the designated work location in-person, per our hybrid work policy.
  • Must be able to pass nuclear background screening for un-escorted access to the nuclear facilities

Responsibilities

  • Work on industrial safety improvement items - shaft guards for rotating machinery, platforms, and other industrial safety engineering requests.
  • Work on site engineering document change backlog
  • Improve upon reporting tools used by site engineers and integration of AI tools into design engineering activities.
  • Support early screening of outage modifications.
  • Engage in site troubleshooting and decision-making efforts by researching operating experience
  • Research replacements for obsolete equipment
  • Update site calculations.
  • Update lifecycle management documents
  • Endeavor software implementation.
