This position is for a May 24, 2027 start date. This position may have the possibility to extend beyond the internship’s initial term based on the candidate’s successful performance and Xcel Energy’s business needs.

Requirements

Current student, Sophomore or higher
Enrolled in an ABET accredited college or university and pursuing a degree in electrical, mechanical or civil engineering.
Occasional travel to meet with engineers & interns at downtown facilities, and sister plant (Prairie Island)
Able to work full-time during the summer (up to 40 hours a week)/ part time during the school year (up to 20 hours a week) and commuting to the designated work location in-person, per our hybrid work policy.
Must be able to pass nuclear background screening for un-escorted access to the nuclear facilities

Responsibilities

Work on industrial safety improvement items - shaft guards for rotating machinery, platforms, and other industrial safety engineering requests.
Work on site engineering document change backlog
Improve upon reporting tools used by site engineers and integration of AI tools into design engineering activities.
Support early screening of outage modifications.
Engage in site troubleshooting and decision-making efforts by researching operating experience
Research replacements for obsolete equipment
Update site calculations.
Update lifecycle management documents
Endeavor software implementation.
