About The Position

Upwing Energy is developing and commercializing their novel downhole compression system (SCS) and a new topside compression solution (ICS) along with several supporting electrical and hydraulic products (SCC, HCC). Our development efforts combine exciting engineering challenges in turbomachinery; rotordynamics; high-speed and high-power electric motors; power electronics; industrial automation; aerodynamics; structural, thermal and fluid flow simulations; advanced controls; mechanical design and design-for-manufacturability. The Design Engineering Manager will manage the team of people and the overall process responsible for delivering these activities. Team members include design engineers, designers, and change management specialists.

Requirements

  • Engineering degree (Mechanical or Electrical)
  • A minimum of 5 years of product development, engineering and/or test experience with a minimum of 3 years of mechanical design and/or analysis experience.
  • Demonstrated effective management experience is required
  • Strong written and oral communication skills

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with rotating machinery, turbomachinery, power electronics or industrial automation of complex systems is strongly preferred
  • Strong familiarity with a wide range of data acquisition equipment and control/automation of that equipment is a plus
  • SolidWorks experience is preferred
  • Must have the initiative to take ownership and drive results

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the planning, execution, and optimization of mechanical design in support of new programs and sustaining existing products in accordance with our product development process.
  • Develop and manage intake process to align priorities throughout the organization and ensure timely release of new products, key projects, and critical analyses
  • Ensure that Geometric Design and Tolerances standards are applied to drawings per ASME Y14.5
  • Ensure that new drawings and part revisions are released and revision controlled per Upwing Engineering Change Review Process.
  • Manage the validation and release of new assemblies using the Upwing Product Development Process.
  • Provide timely feedback, recognition, and correction as appropriate to help the team members perform at their best, reflecting the Upwing Energy culture and values.
  • Facilitate documented individual development plans, updated periodically to provide a clear path for career progression and a sense of growth and potential to members of the mechanical design & analysis team.
  • Manage skills inventory of the design and analysis team, planning for capacity, both short- and long-term to meet company growth objectives.
  • Lead and mentor a team of mechanical designers and mechanical engineers, fostering a culture of safety, quality, and high performance
