About The Position

Join our project delivery team as a Design Engineering Lead. You'll lead the design and optimization of HVAC, structural, and integrated mechanical systems — bringing technical expertise and strategic thinking to every project phase.

Requirements

  • Four-year Mechanical or Architectural Engineering degree
  • Minimum 7-10 years relevant work experience
  • Advanced understanding of mechanical building systems and energy use for a variety of building types including K-12 schools, university facilities and housing, correctional facilities, medical facilities, etc.
  • Advanced verbal and written communication skills including, but not limited to, the ability to listen effectively and solicit input from others
  • Advanced understanding of the design, specification and operation of mechanical systems and equipment.
  • Proficiency with engineering calculations for chosen engineering discipline
  • Mechanical - loads, ventilation, psychrometrics and air & hydronic calculations
  • Advanced understanding of International Building Council codes and applicable area codes and related Mechanical standards and guidelines.
  • Willing to travel up to 25% to project sites

  • Professional Engineer registration preferred

Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership and guidance to a team of design engineers within a single discipline.
  • Develop and implement design engineering work product guide, processes and standards.
  • Define project scopes, goals, and deliverables in collaboration with other engineering discipline leads and business partners.
  • Develop and update design budgets stakeholders.
  • Plan and coordinate site survey data collection, design charrette participation, design activities at each project phase and design submissions to satisfy project timelines and schedules.
  • Conduct design reviews and provide constructive feedback to optimize designs.
  • Assure that technical coordination is performed and completed.
  • Possess a deep understanding of engineering principles, calculations, and design concepts
  • Stay updated with industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices.
  • Assure compliance with all codes and standard related to your discipline.
  • Provide technical guidance to resolve complex design challenges.
  • Represent design discipline at all required project meetings.
  • Confirm design direction at each project stage with business goals and direction.
  • Review and confirm cost estimate with ECC (Estimating & Cost Control).
  • Monitor project progress, identify risks, and implement mitigation strategies.
  • Provide feedback to project development manager, account executive and construction manager as to schedules, deliverables, cost, risks, and any discrepancies therein.
  • Submit plans to QC review as necessary.
  • Effectively communicate design concepts, strategies, and recommendations to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Foster open communication channels within the team and across departments.
