About The Position

At Shield, we design and manufacture custom environments for championship athletic programs and leading healthcare facilities. As a Design Engineer, you'll transform concepts into manufacturable products using SolidWorks. You will work alongside Design, Estimating, Operations, and Production to create detailed production drawings, solve engineering challenges, and bring custom projects to life. This role offers the opportunity to see your work built on the shop floor, delivered to customers, and installed across the country. We are looking for individuals who enjoy creating practical, high-quality solutions, whether they are early-career engineers looking to build skills or experienced professionals in manufacturing design.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Design, Engineering Technology, or a related field (or equivalent experience)
• SolidWorks experience through school, internships, or professional work
• Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills
• Ability to interpret engineering concepts and create accurate production drawings
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills
• Comfortable working in both an office and manufacturing environment

Nice To Haves

• Manufacturing, fabrication, cabinetry, furniture, or casework experience
• CNC machining or CAM exposure
• Experience with production drawings and BOMs
• Adobe Creative Suite experience

Responsibilities

• Create detailed production drawings and assemblies in SolidWorks
• Develop manufacturable designs for custom products
• Collaborate with Design, Estimating, Operations, and Production throughout each project
• Generate and maintain accurate bills of materials (BOMs)
• Apply design-for-manufacturing (DFM) principles to improve quality and efficiency
• Troubleshoot design and manufacturing issues with production teams
• Ensure projects meet quality standards and production timelines
• Continuously look for opportunities to improve products and processes
