About The Position

The Bernard Group is a 100% employee-owned visual merchandising company that leads the retail industry in design and production. They are seeking a Design Engineer to play a pivotal role in creating custom retail fixtures and displays that blend functionality with style. The role involves collaborating with cross-functional teams to develop designs that align with client specifications, brand standards, and manufacturing processes, working with diverse materials such as metal, wood, plastic, and electronics. The ideal candidate will possess expertise in engineering principles and materials to ensure designs are cutting-edge and cost-effective.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Design, or a related field.
  • A minimum of 2 years of experience as a Design Engineer, preferably in the retail fixtures or visual merchandising industry.
  • Expert proficiency in SOLIDWORKS, SOLIDWORKS PDM, and other relevant design engineering tools.
  • A thorough and organized approach to your work with a strong sense of concept development.
  • Ability to effectively research and problem solve independently and offer solutions.
  • Plan, prioritize, coordinate, and manage your work.
  • Complete projects accurately within deadlines, while meeting Company quality standards.
  • Apply effective time management and self-management skills.
  • Understand and maintain the confidential nature of company, employee and customer information.
  • Knowledge of materials; metal, wood, acrylic and others.
  • Able to effectively communicate, both verbally and in writing. Strong interpersonal skills including, demonstrated listening skills and the ability to present ideas and thoughts concisely and effectively both internally and outside the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with clients, designers, product developers, and project managers to translate project requirements into detailed engineering designs using SOLIDWORKS.
  • Create 3D models, detailed drawings, and specifications in a fast-paced, ever-changing environment.
  • Generate PDF drawing packages and file outputs for production or external vendors.
  • Revise models and drawings based on feedback from clients, vendors, or production teams.
  • Maintain accurate revision control of all SOLIDWORKS drawings and file outputs while adhering to departmental SOPs.
  • Partner with vendors to understand fabrication techniques and ensure the accuracy of designs.
  • Develop prototypes and conduct tests to verify quality, functionality, and safety standards.
  • Select optimal materials and manufacturing processes for cost-effectiveness, durability, and aesthetics.
  • Create renderings using PhotoView360 or Visualize as needed.
  • Provide technical support during production and installation phases.
  • Stay updated on industry trends, materials, and technologies to integrate innovative solutions.
  • Manage multiple projects, ensuring timely delivery within budget.
  • Perform quality checks on team members’ drawing packages to uphold high standards.
