About The Position

BRUDIS & ASSOCIATES, INC. (BAI) is a multidiscipline engineering firm providing consulting services to public and private sector clients in the Maryland, Virginia, and District of Columbia region. Since 1992, BAI has provided comprehensive, innovative and effective solutions to our clients’ transportation, stormwater, and infrastructure needs. BAI is actively seeking a Design Engineer for the Structures & Bridges Department in our Columbia, Maryland office. The Design Engineer works under the direction of the Project Engineer or Project Manager for a variety of structures and bridge projects. They will demonstrate an ability to collaboratively work with a group or independently on a wide-range of small- or large-scale multi-discipline projects for state, county, or local jurisdictions. Design Engineers will assist with development of project plans and specifications and will act as Team Members for bridge safety inspections under the guidance of Project Engineers and Project Managers. The job requires analytical thinking, adaptive problem solving, creativity, and innovation. Design Engineers shall be dependable, open-minded, focused, and attentive to details including project schedules, budgets, and design quality. This is an opportunity for an entry- or junior-level engineer to work in a small, but growing group of structural engineering professionals and gain a wide variety of experience with progressive levels of responsibility.

Requirements

  • BSCE in Civil Engineering or appropriate discipline
  • Fundamentals of Engineering Exam (FE/EIT)
  • 0-6 years of design experience in structural engineering
  • Detail oriented with strong skills in structural analysis, steel design, and concrete design
  • Working knowledge of CADD
  • Strong computer skills including Microsoft office products and GIS applications
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work well within a project team by building relationships and teamwork
  • Ability to travel to project sites
  • Ability to conduct field work outdoors in varying weather conditions

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of Microstation and associated design software is desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Developing plans, specifications and estimates for structural elements including but not limited to bridge, culvert, noise barriers, retaining walls, parking structures, load ratings, inspections, etc.
  • Participating in bridge inspections
  • Assisting in developing bridge inspection reports
