About The Position

Pratt & Whitney's Compression Systems Engineering (CSE) organization is seeking a detail-oriented and results-driven Design Engineer to join the Engineering Support to Operations (ESTO) team. This role will support operational engineering activities for the new Geared Turbofan (GTF) engine family, mature commercial engines, and related hardware. The position contributes to the Commercial Static Parts Family team, supporting critical design and operational execution tasks. The ESTO team provides dedicated support by eliminating quality notifications, escapes, and work stops, while enabling producibility and delivery of legacy and new parts, assemblies, modules, and engines. ESTO covers all engine programs and part families, enabling engine deliveries, first piece reviews, first article inspections, analysis automation, and process certification. ESTO also supports the Manufacturing Readiness Level (MRL) initiative in Operations. Technical disciplines in ESTO include Project Engineering, Mechanical Design, Structural Analysis, Product Definition, and Manufacturing Engineering. Compression Systems Engineering (CSE) is responsible for the design, development, and in-service support of all fans, low-pressure and high-pressure compressors for commercial and military engine models. CSE is responsible for the identification and maturation of new technologies for these products. Technical disciplines in CSE include Project Engineering, Mechanical Design, Structural Analysis, and Product Definition. Aftermarket and Sustainment Engineering executes both military and commercial repair design and repairs substantiations for engines. They create and improve ASE business and repair development tools, and design, develop, and qualify military repair tooling.

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering and 5 years of engineering experience, or an Advanced degree and 3 years of engineering experience.
  • U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are authorized to access information under this program/contract.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering
  • Experience working in the aerospace industry, specifically supporting jet engine programs, to contribute effectively to technical and operational goals.
  • Demonstrate the ability to communicate clearly and professionally—both verbally and in writing—to support cross-functional collaboration and maintain strong working relationships.
  • Consistently use strong interpersonal skills to interact effectively with teams and stakeholders, contributing to a productive and collaborative work environment.

Responsibilities

  • Provide engineering support for production hardware and engines by improving producibility, resolving non-conformances, and guiding supplier transitions and start-ups to ensure safety, reliability, and cost-effective performance.
  • Deliver technical support for ESTO’s portfolio of new and mature commercial engines, contributing to the success of industry-leading propulsion systems.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams—including engine programs, Component Integrated Product Teams (CIPTs), module center engineering, design, and metallurgy—to achieve safety, quality, delivery, and cost objectives.
  • Mentor and coach engineers at all experience levels, supporting both team development and continued personal growth.
  • Conduct timely and accurate design assessments for static frames, cases, and actuation hardware in the forward (“cold”) section of commercial engines, ensuring alignment with engineering requirements.
  • Coordinate and execute design analyses—including print updates, producibility improvements, and non-conformance dispositions—while providing vendor support and completing Engineering First Piece Reviews (EFPRs) within defined program timelines.
  • Mentor and coach early-career engineers by offering structured guidance, feedback, and technical insight to support their professional development.
  • Collaborate with multi-disciplinary engineering teams to deliver design solutions that meet performance, durability, and life requirements, using classical analysis and Finite Element Analysis (FEA) where appropriate.
  • Document, communicate, and present design results, serving as the primary approver for design analysis memos and ensuring engineering standard work processes are consistently followed and enhanced.
