Design Engineer
About The Position
We’re hiring a Design Engineer — someone who codes production-quality interfaces and has the aesthetic taste to design them. You’ll be the person making sure everything we ship looks as good as the problem we’re solving. At Taste, design is not a layer on top of the product — it is the product. You’ll own the visual polish across everything from our web product to our internal creative tooling, writing clean TypeScript/React and making opinionated calls on type, motion, layout, and feel. Think: the person who would be happy at Linear, Vercel, Figma, or Rauno’s studio.
Requirements
- You can point to 2–3 interfaces you’ve shipped that you’re genuinely proud of the craft on
- Strong in modern React, Tailwind, motion (Framer Motion / GSAP / CSS), and have opinions on typography
- You’ve worked at a design-forward company: Figma, Linear, Vercel, Notion, Arc, Raycast, Stripe, Loops, Cursor, or a seriously tasteful early-stage startup
- You have a personal website, side project, or portfolio that shows your style
- You understand design systems deeply and care about them
Responsibilities
- Shipping pixel-perfect, performant interfaces in Next.js / React / Tailwind
- Owning design system and motion language
- Prototyping experimental UI for our AI-driven creative tools
- Partnering with our founding designer on brand surfaces and product surfaces
- Using our own AI tooling to accelerate design → code (we eat our own dog food)
