About The Position

As a Design Engineer, you will own the detailed design and development of mechanical components and assemblies from concept through production release. This is a highly CAD-intensive role. You'll spend your time designing parts, building and maintaining assemblies, and working through the full DFM and tooling process with our overseas manufacturing partners. You'll work closely with our industrial design, mechanical engineering, and manufacturing teams to deliver parts that are beautiful, functional, and manufacturable.

Requirements

  • 4+ years of working in mechanical engineering or equivalent experience
  • Ability to build complex, well-structured parametric models and assemblies efficiently and cleanly
  • Demonstrated experience designing injection molded parts for production, including DFM analysis and GD&T
  • Direct experience managing tooling development with overseas vendors including tool design reviews, sampling, and FAI
  • Strong 2D drawing skills with working knowledge of GD&T (ASME Y14.5)

Nice To Haves

  • Proficiency in Onshape; experience managing assemblies and drawings in a cloud-based PDM environment
  • Familiarity with additional manufacturing processes — die casting, CNC machining, sheet metal, urethane casting — and how they interact with injection molded components
  • Exposure to structural simulation or FEA
  • Experience working across EVT/DVT/PVT build cycles in a product development context

Responsibilities

  • Own detailed 3D modeling and 2D drawing creation for mechanical components and assemblies in Onshape
  • Design parts across a range of manufacturing processes with a primary focus on injection molding and CNC machining
  • Maintain clean, well-structured CAD models and assemblies with robust parametric relationships and change-tolerant architecture
  • Manage drawing packages including GD&T callouts, tolerances, and surface finish specifications appropriate for the manufacturing process
  • Support design iterations rapidly through prototype and EVT/DVT build cycles, incorporating feedback from testing and manufacturing
  • Lead DFM reviews for injection molded parts, identifying and resolving issues related to draft, wall thickness, sink, warp, parting lines, and gate location
  • Own the tooling development process end-to-end: RFQ, vendor selection, tool design review, T0/T1/T2 sampling, and first article approval
  • Manage relationships with tooling vendors — communicating design intent clearly across time zones , tracking tool build progress, and driving issues to resolution
  • Review and redline tooling designs, mold flow analyses, and DFM feedback from vendors
  • Coordinate with supply chain on tooling lead times, costs, and production readiness
  • Work closely with industrial designers to translate aesthetic intent into manufacturable geometry without compromising the design vision
  • Partner with electrical and systems engineers to integrate PCBs, connectors, cables, and other components into enclosures and structural assemblies
  • Collaborate with quality and manufacturing teams to develop inspection criteria and first article requirements for molded parts
  • Support tolerance stack-up analysis and fit/function verification during builds

Benefits

  • sign-on payments
  • restricted stock units (RSUs)
  • health insurance (medical, dental, vision, prescription, Basic Life & AD&D insurance and option for Supplemental life plans, EAP, Mental Health Support, Medical Advice Line, Flexible Spending Accounts, Adoption and Surrogacy Reimbursement coverage)
  • 401(k) matching
  • paid time off
  • parental leave
