About The Position

Mass Culture is a paid media agency and growth partner for mission-driven scale-up brands. They are looking for a part-time engineer to build features in their client portal, which clients use to view media plans, budget pacing, cross-channel performance, and reports. The engineer will be responsible for building client-facing surfaces like dashboards, widgets, charts, and report/deck builders, as well as admin surfaces such as the widget builder, plan editor, pacing tools, and configuration panels. They will also handle the data plumbing for features, including Postgres schema and migrations, server actions, and connector work against ad-platform APIs. Additionally, the role involves performing polish passes on existing surfaces to enhance their appearance and user experience.

Requirements

Strong React and TypeScript skills.
Real-world Next.js App Router experience, including server components, server actions, and caching behavior.
Comfort with SQL and relational data modeling, including writing migrations and understanding query execution.
A portfolio or repository showcasing work that has been both designed and built.
Ability to work independently in an unfamiliar, opinionated codebase and adhere to its conventions.
Clear written communication skills for text-based collaboration.
Reliable part-time availability with a focus on consistency.

Nice To Haves

Data visualization experience, particularly with charts built on real, messy data.
Experience with Supabase or Postgres row-level security.
Experience with analytics, reporting, or BI-style products.
Comfort with design tools, though not required to produce mockups.

Responsibilities

Build client-facing surfaces including dashboards, widgets, charts, and report and deck builders.
Develop admin surfaces such as the widget builder, plan editor, pacing tools, and configuration panels.
Implement the necessary data plumbing for features, including Postgres schema and migrations, server actions, and connector work against ad-platform APIs.
Perform polish passes on existing surfaces to improve their appearance and user experience.
Work within the established design system, extending it when necessary.
Ensure attention to detail in spacing, alignment, and type hierarchy.
Make charts readable and effective.
Collaborate asynchronously and autonomously, picking up scoped work, building it in a branch, and opening pull requests for review.
Write down specifications, design documents, and house conventions in the repo.
Verify work thoroughly, including manual inspection beyond test suites.
Utilize and carefully review code generated by AI coding tools.
Communicate clearly when issues are identified, including potential errors in the company's approach.
