UCT is looking for a talented Design Engineer IV to join us in Hayward, CA! The Design Engineer IV leads the design and development of complex custom thermal solutions, including heaters and thermocouples, for semiconductor industry applications. This role is responsible for transforming customer requirements into innovative, manufacturable designs that meet performance, quality, and reliability standards. By leveraging advanced CAD tools, conducting technical analyses, and collaborating closely with customers, account teams, manufacturing, and operations, the engineer drives successful product development from concept through production. The Design Engineer IV also supports new product introductions, design reviews, and customer engagements to ensure solutions align with technical specifications and business objectives.

Requirements

  • Personal and professional experience working physically with tools and manufacturing equipment.
  • Strong verbal and written communication English skills.
  • Customer service oriented.
  • Must have working knowledge of CAD software – AutoDesk 3D Inventor, and AutoCAD 2D, and SolidWorks.
  • A working understanding to effectively work within the Agile database.
  • Knowledge of SAP is preferred.
  • Ability to work effectively with operations and other groups to ensure that site delivery and quality issues are met.
  • Working knowledge of MS Office Suite and database software.
  • A fundamental understanding of thermal applications and material properties.
  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering is preferred, or equivalent experience is mandatory.
  • 5+ years design experience in semiconductor capital equipment, heating or related industry.
  • Experience with thermal management and electrical design preferred.
  • Direct experience with prototyping and testing is highly desirable.
  • Working knowledge of quick-turn, engineer-to-order environment.
  • Ability to operate successfully in a fast-paced environment for 2-4 weeks (design cycles).
  • Fluent in both verbal and written English.
  • Ability to start workday and attend meetings at 6.30 or 7 a.m. to have overlap with California team PST (at least Monday to Thursday).
  • May involve exposure to moderate noise levels from manufacturing process equipment.
  • May have exposure to silicones, fiberglass and epoxies used in the fabrication of thermal products.
  • Candidate must have a valid passport and be able to travel for extended duration training trips up to 90 days.
  • Training trips to the US where candidates will work closely to learn and master all aspects of this role.
  • Travel to the US is expected to be less than 180 days per calendar year.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of SAP is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Designs thermal solutions for both heating and temperature sensing applications for both gas and/or liquid delivery systems, using Cad software to execute designs.
  • Possess strong (engineer to engineer) product/project development experience; along with, the ability to provide presentations to sales/operations staff when required.
  • Ability to research and analyze data such as customer design proposals, specifications, and manuals to determine the feasibility of design or application.
  • Responsible for working with internal UCT account managers and operations staff to complete design requirements to customers’ specifications.
  • Coordinates with UCT Thermal manufacturing assisting in the fabrication, test, and installation activities to ensure products and systems conform to engineering design and customer specifications.
  • Participate in design review meetings with internal staff and to follow the NPI process via MS Teams in PST.
  • Potentially participate in customer presentations with sales/operations staff.
