About The Position

A Design Engineer at Cummins will be responsible for the design, release, and testing of Compressed Natural Gas systems. Packaging of components, ensuring proper fitment, and FEA analysis for compliance will be required. Other duties beyond this representative listing may be assigned to the essential job duties and responsibilities of this position based on Company needs.

Requirements

  • It is required that the individual is accurate with good time management and organizational skills.
  • 4-year engineering degree from an accredited college preferably in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology, or a related discipline, or related past experience.
  • Must possess 2-5 years of experience in mechanical design or related experience.
  • Must obtain and maintain the applicable employee license with the Texas Railroad Commission; must pass test within 90 days of hire.
  • Must possess a current and valid driver license with a driving record that meets the insurability guidelines set forth by the company’s insurance carrier.
  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers and the general public.
  • An understanding of mathematical operations including advanced statistics.
  • Good understanding of engineering principles is required.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Knowledge of CAD software is a requirement.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of FEA software is a plus.
  • Must be willing to travel on a limited basis.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for all aspects of design and implementation of new systems and updates of existing systems.
  • Responsible for assembly and testing new designs and proposed updates.
  • Responsible for creating all 3D models using Autodesk Inventor and verifying using Autodesk Inventor FEA and Autodesk Nastran.
  • Communicate with vendors and customers on design requirements and improvements.
  • Support design, fabrication, assembly, and procurement activities through conceptual and detail designs, drawings revisions, drawing releases, and engineering change notice creation.
  • Required to perform engineering liaison activities with procurement, production, suppliers, and customers with guidance from Senior Engineer or Chief Engineer.
  • May be responsible for updating existing systems to reduce component cost, reduce manufacturing costs and time, reduce warranty costs, or meet new customer requirements.
  • Work with production on prototype builds to ensure ease of assembly and bom verification.
  • Hold concept, design, and production reviews of systems.
  • Ensure the manufacturability of all designs via cross functional interaction with the manufacturing department.
  • Participate in Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA).
  • Support activities between Product Engineering, Manufacturing, Operations, and Quality Control/Quality Assurance.
  • Develop and maintain bill of materials for both new and existing projects.
  • Create ECR’s and communicate with appropriate departments.
  • Maintain safe work environment.
