Requirements

  • Ability to communicate effectively in English, both written and orally.
  • BSME or BTME or equivalent.
  • Familiarity with manufacturing processes.
  • Familiarity with material and strength analysis.
  • 2D drawing development and 3D modeling.
  • Proficient in MS Office
  • Maintains a positive work atmosphere by behaving and communicating in a manner that gets along with customers, vendors, co-workers, and Supervisors.
  • Will not impose on self or others as a direct threat to health or safety.
  • Works as a team player, helping to meet departmental and Company goals and objectives.

Responsibilities

  • Develop new product designs, improve existing product designs, and complete Research & Development projects to improve sales, improve product features, and/or reduce costs.
  • Committed to ensuring the achievement of continuous improvement within area of expertise, as well as areas of business to remain at the forefront of meeting Company objectives, thus proactively satisfying customers.
  • Is aware of relevance and importance of their activities and how they contribute to the achievement of the quality objectives.
  • Design Engineer is responsible for all aspects of product development including concept development, prototyping, product development, product testing, customer presentation, defining manufacturing process, ensuring successful initial production run, and staying within project budget.
  • Meet the time constraints provided at the start of the project and ensure every new product is launched successfully and/or the project file has been documented properly to retain relevant information.
  • If the product designs are delegated to Design Engineers, then the Product Engineer shall ensure the Design Engineer understands the design objectives and the final design meets these requirements.
  • All design projects should follow the latest Engineering Design Plan.
  • Shall stay within the design parameters provided at the start of the improvement project.
  • Will design experiments, make product modifications, conduct design verification testing, and will make changes to the part prints and processes.
  • Shall investigate new technologies to obtain product improvements and/or reduce costs.
  • Shall investigate new materials to obtain product improvements and/or to reduce costs.
  • Shall perform analysis on competitor products.
  • May identify new products or markets for our products. They shall make recommendations to Engineering Management, Sales, and/or Executives.
  • The Design Engineer is required to develop patents to protect McGard’s intellectual property.
  • Will follow all quality systems procedures.
  • Coordinates projects completely with all necessary groups while providing updates and documentation as required by the project phases.
  • Clearly communicates requirements and expectations throughout the project.
  • Drives project consistently based on project commitments and necessity.
  • Projects can be considered high level. They could range from corporate goals to R&D development projects. These projects will typically involve new designs or technologies that require a high level of coordination and planning.
  • Resourcefulness and creativity are required to be successful due to intricacies of the projects.
  • Project deliverables may not be completely defined initially and will require frequent review.
  • Multiple projects with competing deadlines will need to be managed efficiently while organization must be maintained.
  • Travel may be required to support projects, to manage customer issues, or to assist sales.
  • Status and results may be communicated via any media required.
  • Will also interface with people at all levels of the company.
  • Review basic pneumatic and hydraulic power schematics to ensure intended control can be achieved.
