About The Position

Spaceco is seeking a Design Engineer I/II to support the planning, design, and technical execution of civil engineering projects. This entry‑level to early‑career role is designed to build professional engineering skills through hands‑on project work, design calculations, plan preparation, and field observation. You will apply standard engineering techniques, perform portions of broader project assignments, and help ensure design work is accurate, coordinated, and delivered on schedule.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET‑accredited program (or equivalent).
  • 0–4 years of civil engineering or related experience.
  • Knowledge of engineering principles, practices, and mathematical applications.
  • Ability to perform engineering computations, estimates, and moderately complex design tasks.
  • Familiarity with engineering field instruments and standard office tools.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks in a deadline‑driven environment.
  • Basic proficiency in computer‑aided design (Civil 3D, Open Site, etc.).
  • Strong written communication skills for reports, correspondence, and technical documentation.
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving abilities.
  • Ability to communicate professionally with colleagues, clients, and supervisors.

Responsibilities

  • Complete engineering assignments using standard practices and methods.
  • Assist in preparing design plans, specifications, and cost estimates that align with agency standards.
  • Prepare calculations, sketches, comparisons, and technical analyses.
  • Review drawings provided by vendors, clients, architects, and engineers, recommending revisions to supervisors as needed.
  • Research and review code requirements and regulations from municipal, state, county, and federal agencies.
  • Document design options, findings, and technical results for supervisor review.
  • Produce reports and technical documentation summarizing studies, evaluations, and project details.
  • Conduct field visits to understand site constraints and support design development.
  • Coordinate assigned tasks with designers, technicians, and engineers within the discipline group.
  • Communicate with supervisors regarding workload, schedule changes, or scope adjustments.
  • Review all work for completeness and accuracy before submission.
  • Perform occasional deliveries, pickups, or errands as needed for project support.
