About The Position

Ulteig is seeking talented and motivated Design Engineer – Battery Energy Storage (BESS) candidates to support the design of utility-scale renewable projects nationwide. This role is a strategic contributor to the growth of their Renewables Lifeline Sector®. Qualified candidates can work remotely from any location in the US, or if they choose, may work from any of Ulteig’s existing office locations.

Requirements

  • Degree in Electrical Engineering required or equivalent required.
  • Minimum of 2-4 years of experience in power systems, with detailed design of Renewable BESS strongly preferred.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, strong interpersonal skills, and the ability to clearly and effectively present complex information to all levels of employees, management, and clients.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Proven experience in Microsoft Software Applications (Word, Excel, Power Point).
  • Must be a self-starter and willing to identify improvements and implement them, utilizing support from others.
  • Must be capable of devising new approaches to problems encountered.
  • Due to the dynamic nature of the renewable energy market, the ability to learn, understand, and apply new technologies is a must.
  • The position requires the ability to effectively multi-task and manage numerous projects/tasks simultaneously, frequently within aggressive and compressed schedules.
  • Ability to maintain project schedule and achieve target due dates.
  • Excellent presentation and verbal/written communications skills.
  • Demonstrates strong interpersonal skills with the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, management, clients, and external agencies.
  • If working remote must have reliable high speed internet capabilities.
  • Must have authorization to work permanently in the U.S.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with CYMCAP preferred.
  • Experience with ETAP and or EasyPower Preferred.
  • Experience/familiarity with AUTOCAD or Revit is preferred but not necessary.
  • Knowledge of BESS and or Wind systems, NEC requirements, and construction practices is strongly preferred.
  • Up to 15% travel required.
  • Valid driver’s license preferred.
  • Demonstrates openness to innovation by embracing and applying evolving technology and AI tools to enhance workflows, solve problems, and drive continuous improvement.

Responsibilities

  • Work with internal teams and external clients to develop renewable project design/construction packages including BESS layouts, electrical one-lines, collection systems, collection system studies, and equipment installation details for Utility Scale renewable systems (50-500MW+).
  • Interact directly with clients for successful project execution.
  • Design projects with multi-discipline teams of 2-4 people, including a design engineer (focused on layout, details, etc.), a system studies engineer, with additional support from CAD technicians.
  • Support development of early-stage projects with conceptual designs and material take-offs.
  • Contribute to the continual development of internal engineering standards, toolsets, and work processes.
  • Turn initial system conceptual ideas into fully developed optimized EPC designs.
  • Must have strong attention to detail.
