About The Position

Be part of the Design & Construction team supporting Encompass Health, the nation’s leading provider of inpatient rehabilitation. As a Design & Construction Planning Manager, you will play a key role in planning and developing capital construction and renovation projects across our growing national healthcare network. This position is responsible for the planning, feasibility, scope development, budgeting, scheduling and preconstruction planning of capital projects, including new hospital construction, renovations, expansions and facility improvements. Working closely with Real Estate, Development, Operations, Preconstruction, architects, civil engineers, contractors and other consultants, this role evaluates potential projects and sites and develops the scope, schedule and preliminary budget needed to determine project feasibility and secure capital funding. Projects typically range from $1 million to $80 million, with responsibility for managing multiple projects simultaneously.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required; degree in construction management, architecture, engineering, design, facilities management, real estate development or a related field preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in construction project management, capital project planning, facilities planning, preconstruction, conceptual estimating, site development or a related field.
  • Strong project management, analytical, communication and presentation skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including PowerPoint and Teams; experience with Adobe and Oracle preferred.
  • Ability to travel up to 10% for site evaluation and project planning.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience managing construction, renovation, expansion or capital improvement projects preferred.
  • Experience developing project scopes, budgets, schedules and conceptual cost estimates preferred.
  • Experience working with architects, engineers, contractors, consultants or other construction professionals preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the planning and development of capital construction and renovation projects from initial concept through project approval.
  • Develop project scope, preliminary budgets, schedules and conceptual solutions based on operational and business objectives.
  • Partner with Real Estate and Development teams to support new market growth, facility expansion and de novo hospital development.
  • Evaluate potential project sites and travel as needed to conduct site feasibility and due diligence.
  • Coordinate site diligence activities and evaluate civil, geotechnical, environmental, survey and other site-related reports.
  • Work with civil engineers, architects, contractors and other consultants to evaluate project feasibility and identify the optimal solution for capital investment.
  • Partner with the Preconstruction team to develop conceptual cost estimates and preliminary project budgets.
  • Prepare funding approval packages and presentations outlining project scope, schedule, budget and capital requirements.
  • Manage design consultants, vendors and other external partners throughout the planning process.
  • Monitor project schedules, consultant fees, invoices and project documentation to ensure alignment with approved budgets and timelines.
  • Identify regulatory requirements and assist with required notifications and approvals that may impact project cost or schedule.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders and cross-functional teams to communicate project status, risks, assumptions and recommendations.
  • Manage multiple capital projects simultaneously, prioritizing projects based on organizational needs, timelines and available resources.
