Design and Construction Integration Manager

Mott MacDonald•Seattle, WA
•$185,000 - $226,000•Hybrid

About The Position

Mott MacDonald is seeking a Design & Construction Integration Manager to connect the owner, final-design team, and construction delivery partners on a major program. In this senior owner-side role, you will convert design intent, contractor preconstruction input, commercial decisions, and third-party constraints into coordinated work packages that can be credibly priced, procured, staged, and built. You will lead contract-packaging strategy, constructability and staging, design-readiness gates, and interface control from final design through early construction. You will make sure contractor advice is resolved and reflected in design decisions before unresolved access, temporary-works, utility, systems, and cross-package issues migrate into the field.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, construction management, architecture, project management, or a related field.
  • Significant experience leading design-construction integration on a major transit, rail, or heavy-civil program from preconstruction through a target-price, GMP, or MACC commitment and into construction.
  • Experience coordinating multidisciplinary design, commercial, controls, construction, systems, utility, and third-party teams across multiple contract or work packages.
  • Strong knowledge of final design, constructability, preconstruction services, early-work packaging, procurement, cost and schedule development, temporary works, access planning, and construction sequencing.
  • Demonstrated experience defining and closing physical, functional, organizational, and temporal interfaces; resolving scope gaps and dependencies; and documenting the disposition of contractor input and owner decisions.
  • Strong communication, workshop facilitation, negotiation, conflict-resolution, and partner-coordination skills, with the judgment to escalate issues early and clearly.
  • Working knowledge of integrated master scheduling, independent estimating, risk and contingency management, change control, procurement, and collaborative-delivery commercial governance.

Nice To Haves

  • Professional Engineer, Certified Construction Manager, Project Management Professional, or comparable professional credential.
  • Direct owner-side or contractor-side experience with Washington GCCM, GC/CM, CMAR, or progressive design-build, including preconstruction services, estimate reconciliation, and MACC or GMP development.
  • Experience supporting major transportation, transit, rail, or complex civil infrastructure programs.
  • Advanced knowledge of construction staging, temporary works, systems and civil interface control, configuration and design change management, package-release readiness, and testing

Responsibilities

  • Build the connection between design and construction. Lead integration across complex infrastructure work packages so design information is coordinated, constructible, ready for pricing, and aligned with delivery schedules.
  • Serve as the owner-side integration lead among the final designer, GCCM and other construction delivery partners, commercial management, project controls, systems integration, third parties, and field delivery teams.
  • Develop and maintain contract packaging strategies, including early works and major construction packages.
  • Lead structured constructability, access, staging, temporary-works, logistics, and means-and-methods reviews; convert contractor input into assigned design actions with documented disposition and closure.
  • Integrate GCCM preconstruction deliverables with design development, independent estimating, procurement, risk retirement, sequencing, and construction execution, including estimate and schedule reconciliation at commercial commitment points.
  • Establish and administer design-readiness and package-release milestones based on scope definition, quantities, interfaces, permits, access, retained risks, third-party commitments, and pricing assumptions, not design percentage alone.
  • Own interface control across civil, stations, track, rail systems, utilities, structures, and third-party work packages, including tie-ins to existing and adjacent infrastructure.
  • Identify and resolve scope gaps, overlaps, owner-retained responsibilities, access dependencies, acceptance criteria, and cross-package risks before they affect procurement, pricing, construction, testing, or commissioning.
  • Align design deliverables and interface-closure dates with the integrated master schedule, procurement milestones, early-work releases, and commercial decision points; escalate unresolved issues with clear cost, schedule, risk, and operational consequences.
  • Maintain the integration plan, interface register, design-readiness dashboard, assumptions and commitments log, decision log, action register, and records showing contractor recommendations that were accepted, rejected, deferred, or transferred.
  • Embed safety, quality, maintainability, operability, and construction-readiness requirements in design and preconstruction decisions, while promoting early bad news, timely resolution, and continuous improvement.
