About The Position

We are seeking a full-time Design Certification Engineer Intern at Garmin's U.S. headquarters for Summer 2027 in the Greater Kansas City area. In this role, you will be responsible for contributing to avionics certification under the direction of a mentor or team leader.

Requirements

  • Pursuing a degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Computer Engineering or other related field
  • Excellent academics (composite GPA ≥ 3.0) with the demonstrated ability to apply learned knowledge
  • Superior organizational and analytical skills with keen attention to detail and quality
  • Demonstrated strong and effective verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills

Nice To Haves

  • Outstanding academics (cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 3.5)
  • Experience with CAD and relevant aviation mechanical design
  • Experience with or knowledge of RTCA DO-160, DO-254, DO-178, or any FAA or Aviation related regulatory standards
  • Aviation related experience

Responsibilities

  • Under guidance and mentorship of an experienced design certification engineer, produce and submit key FAA documents to ensure compliance with required avionics certification
  • Participate in MPS, TSO and product improvement testing and develop reports to document testing efforts
  • Assist with requirements development, trace matrix development and performing generic safety analysis
  • Coordinate product development reviews
  • Perform aircraft certification EMC testing and report generation
  • Provide support to the DCE team through review and updates to procedure documents
  • Design basic avionics electronics circuits including schematic design and PCB layout for design of digital or analog circuits with assistance and mentoring from other team members
  • Complete basic certification and DO-254 documentation and partner with experienced DCE for signoff
  • With guidance from mentors or team leaders, develop tests of basic FPGA circuits in accordance with the DO-254 process
  • Support software verification efforts
  • Accept and act on constructive criticism
