Design-Build Project Manager (Water/Wastewater)
About The Position
Arcadis is seeking a Design-Build Project Manager to lead municipal water, wastewater, and stormwater infrastructure projects throughout Northern Virginia, Washington, DC, and Maryland. The role leads collaborative project delivery, manages multidisciplinary teams, and serves as a trusted advisor to clients, contractors, and other stakeholders. The position oversees complex municipal infrastructure projects from pursuit through completion, providing leadership in project execution, client management, business development, and team coordination. The manager is accountable for successful delivery in terms of scope, schedule, budget, quality, and safety, and supports the growth of Arcadis' Design-Build practice through mentoring, client development, and strategic project leadership.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field.
- At least 10 years of experience managing municipal water, wastewater, and/or stormwater infrastructure projects, including Design-Build or alternative delivery experience.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license in Virginia, Maryland, or Washington, DC, or ability to obtain licensure through reciprocity.
- Associate Design-Build Professional™ (Assoc. DBIA) certification.
- Strong knowledge of Design-Build, Progressive Design-Build, Construction Manager at Risk, and other collaborative delivery methods.
- Demonstrated success managing complex municipal infrastructure projects and leading multidisciplinary teams.
- Ability to build trusted relationships with clients, contractors, and stakeholders throughout the Mid-Atlantic region.
- Strong commercial awareness, contract management, and financial oversight capabilities.
- Excellent communication, leadership, and team development skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities while focusing on safety, quality, and client satisfaction.
Nice To Haves
- 15 or more years of experience and full DBIA certification.
- Experience managing large municipal water, wastewater, or stormwater Design-Build projects.
- Established relationships with contractors and public-sector utility clients throughout the Mid-Atlantic.
- Master's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Business Administration, or a related field.
- Experience supporting major pursuits and winning alternative delivery projects within the municipal water market.
Responsibilities
- Lead the planning, execution, and delivery of municipal water, wastewater, and stormwater Design-Build projects.
- Serve as the primary client contact and maintain relationships with municipal utilities, local governments, and contractor partners.
- Manage multidisciplinary project teams to deliver projects safely, on schedule, within budget, and to a high standard of quality.
- Lead project pursuits, including proposal development, risk assessments, contract reviews, and partnering strategies.
- Oversee project financial performance, including forecasting, budgeting, and change management.
- Coordinate with contractors, owners, and stakeholders to address project challenges and drive successful delivery.
- Support the growth of Arcadis' Design-Build practice through mentoring, client development, and strategic project leadership.
