About The Position
This role is for a Design and Coaching Specialist - Math at Leading Educators (LE), a national nonprofit focused on improving student success through excellent teaching. The specialist will partner with school systems to foster intentional collaboration and adult learning, strengthening instructional and leadership practices. The position involves working directly with educators to implement Illustrative Mathematics with precision and impact, blending content expertise with coaching skills. Responsibilities include observing classrooms, analyzing student work, facilitating professional learning, and designing tailored resources. The role requires significant time in schools, building relationships, asking questions, and co-designing solutions, using data to inform decisions and modeling professional learning. Key areas of expertise include making mathematics engaging for students and teachers, deep Grade 6-Secondary math expertise grounded in Illustrative Mathematics, coaching conversations that drive change through observation, feedback, and reflection, designing professional learning experiences (PLCs, learning labs), and leveraging AI to enhance workflows in planning, analysis, communication, and results delivery.
Requirements
- 7+ years of professional experience in education, including teaching, leading instructional practice, or supporting curriculum implementation
- Demonstrated expertise in Grade 6–Secondary mathematics content, with foundational knowledge of K–5 standards
- Proven experience providing coaching to teachers, teacher leaders, or school leaders with documented impact on practice
- Strong skills in designing and facilitating professional learning aligned to curriculum, standards, and observable instructional practice
- Ability to analyze student work, classroom observation data, and instructional artifacts to inform coaching and professional learning decisions
- Established credibility as an instructional leader with the ability to manage school-based relationships with professionalism, reliability, and expertise
- Active practitioner-level fluency with artificial intelligence tools—you use AI to improve work quality and impact, identify appropriate use cases, and exercise sound judgment about responsible application
- Willingness and ability to travel frequently, including bi-weekly local travel to schools and district meetings, plus occasional national travel for organizational retreats and professional development
