About The Position

York Space Systems is seeking a Deputy Vice President of Engineering who will serve as a key strategic leader, overseeing the operational excellence and technical output of our engineering organization. You will partner closely with the VP of Engineering to scale high-performing teams, optimize development, and ensure the delivery of robust, scalable products. Your role involves bridging the gap between executive strategy and technical execution, mentoring senior engineering leadership, and championing a culture of continuous improvement. We are looking for a seasoned leader who can drive architectural integrity while managing the complexities of resource allocation and cross-departmental alignment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related technical field (Master’s preferred).
  • 12+ years of progressive engineering experience, including at least 5 years in senior leadership roles.
  • Experience in aerospace, satellite manufacturing, or similarly regulated/high-reliability industries.
  • Demonstrated success managing large, multidisciplinary engineering teams.
  • Strong financial acumen with experience managing departmental budgets.
  • Proven ability to develop leaders and implement succession planning frameworks.
  • Ability to obtain a TS /SCI clearance
  • Ability to work full-time in office

  • Familiarity with industry standards (e.g., NASA, DoD, or commercial space requirements).

Responsibilities

  • Lead, mentor, and develop engineering leaders across disciplines while fostering a high-performance culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
  • Oversee workforce planning, hiring strategies, and organizational design to support current and future program needs.
  • Champion employee engagement, retention, and professional development, including identifying high-potential talent and implementing structured growth plans.
  • Establish and maintain succession plans for key leadership and critical technical roles in partnership with HR to ensure long-term pipeline strength.
  • Own and manage the engineering budget (headcount, capital, and operating expenses), including forecasting, financial monitoring, and cost control.
  • Partner with the Director of Engineering Operations to maintain a strong, execution-aligned talent pipeline.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with program management, manufacturing, and supply chain to ensure seamless product development and delivery.
  • Drive standardization and continuous improvement of engineering processes, tools, and performance metrics.
  • Serve as the primary delegate for the VP of Engineering, ensuring continuity of leadership and decision-making.
