Prevail is a new organization that helps field organizations and philanthropists to pursue ambitious global goals together. We believe there are opportunities to make focused ‘big pushes’ that can achieve globally‑meaningful goals. We’re looking for a sharp strategic thinker and stellar communicator to help us move more money into bold, high-impact social change. The Deputy will work directly with Andrew Youn, Prevail's Co-Founder, and sits on the Philanthropy team. This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a new, small team that is ultimately seeking to help reshape how global philanthropy works. About Prevail Prevail is a new foundation dedicated to pursuing bold goals. We set a social change goal, find philanthropists who have a similar vision, raise a pooled fund, and then make grants. Rather than choosing a general issue area (e.g. education), each pooled fund chooses a simple, targeted goal. For example, our first fund aims to improve foundational education for over 27.5 million Grade 1-3 children, across 11 national governments in Sub-Saharan Africa and South Asia. Prevail provides patient capital to implementers – primarily in the form of grants that grow over time as our partner organizations scale. In addition to funding, Prevail also offers on-the-ground support that helps orgs to scale, such as strategic planning, systems, recruitment, and talent development services. Our roots are in the field. Our Co-Founding Board members have a track record of scaling social enterprises that together employ more than 15,000 staff and manage annual budgets exceeding $500M. In our first three years, we have: Provided $55M in funding to date, to support 27 partners across Sub-Saharan Africa and South Asia, growing very quickly Helped partners to strengthen foundational learning outcomes for over 3 million children Hired 35+ mission-driven team members Executed dozens of in-field projects to help support key functions for our implementing partners The role Prevail raises capital in partnership with a small number of visionary philanthropists. For example, our first education fund is supported by only six givers at any given time, and this project is on track to raise and deploy $1B+ over 13 years. Andrew leads donor relationships and the Philanthropy team directly, while also playing a programmatic role in Prevail’s field execution. The Deputy will work closely with Andrew, be “in the room” with donors when possible, and will have deep connection to the program team. The deputy’s job is to help to find and communicate the match between each donor’s priorities and our intended program delivery goals. This is a senior, individual contributor role within the Philanthropy team, with strong growth potential. Prevail strives for outstanding, detailed, and transparent communication with each giver, in a way that authentically reflects our program goals, achievements, and challenges. This role includes communication, written materials, preparation, and follow-through. The Deputy ensures Andrew can do that work well, and that everything behind each relationship is handled with the same level of care and program substance. As Prevail raises new funds and Andrew’s work scales, we expect that the scope of the Deputy role will expand and change over time. The initial scope will broadly look like this: Prepare for donor meetings. Work with the philanthropy and program teams to research and prepare materials to clearly communicate our work, and to maximize the chance of a potential match in goals. Be in the room with Andrew in high-stakes donor meetings. Deeply understand the donor perspective, identify what information we need to provide to meet that perspective. Own follow-through. Work directly with the philanthropy and program teams to ensure we are accurately and clearly communicating our programs. Produce and edit written deliverables. Develop a deep understanding of Prevail’s voice and priorities, and work with the philanthropy team to ensure all written materials reflect both accurately. This will include both direct writing/ editing, and delegation to full-time writers. Manage relationships (possible, over time). Build and maintain relationships with donors' advisors/ key staff/ principals. Take on strategic internal projects - this could be analytical work, research, or operational improvements that sit outside the donor cycle but matter to how Prevail runs its programs.
