About The Position

Dallas County, Iowa is seeking applications for the position of Deputy Sheriff. This opportunity is open to both uncertified and certified applicants. Requirements

Must possess a state driver’s license or state I.D. card (state of current residence) for testing.
Uncertified applicants must pass a physical agility test and a written POST test.
Applicants who have taken the POST test in the past year may use their previous qualifying score or retest.
If physical agility was passed with another agency within the past 6 months, results may be accepted in the short term, but passing with the Dallas County agency is required prior to a hiring offer.
Certified Iowa Peace Officers do not have to take the physical agility test or the POST test.
Certified applicants do not have to be present for initial testing.

Responsibilities

Conduct entrance examinations for Deputy Sheriff, including physical agility tests and written POST tests for uncertified applicants.
Accept and review previous POST test scores from the past year for qualifying applicants.
Evaluate physical agility test results from other agencies within the past 6 months for potential acceptance.
Conduct interviews for certified applicants.
Provide firearms, including patrol rifle and plate carrier.
Issue all uniforms, including bullet proof vests.
Offer take-home cars for patrol/special assignments.
Provide patrol and specialized assignments in both rural and urban areas.
Facilitate SERT/Drug Task Force/Specialized instructor assignments.
Utilize a brand new indoor Shooting Range/Training Facility.
