This job advertisement serves the purpose of hiring for both Cadet (non-certified) and Deputy Sheriff (certified) positions. Based on proven qualifications, your application, and answers to questions within the application, you will be placed in the classification and pay that is appropriate. The Cadet I/II position is under general supervision and prepares a non-certified applicant for a career in law enforcement through formal and in-house training. The selected applicant agrees to perform work as assigned and must be at least 21 years old to be selected to attend the Law Enforcement Academy. If selected, the applicant will be employed full-time while attending the academy, and the Escambia County Sheriff's Office will provide training, equipment, and the state exam fee, contingent on signing a 2-year contract to work as a full-time Deputy Sheriff post-certification. The Deputy Sheriff class performs crime prevention and investigation activities and requires successful completion of a Florida Basic Law Enforcement Academy (or equivalency) and passing the Florida State Officer Certification Exam.
