About The Position

Waukesha County is accepting applications for Law Enforcement Academy Sponsorship. This recruitment is for non-certified/non-academy applicants. Candidates who are hired from this recruitment will be sent to an 18-week Law Enforcement Academy from January 4, 2027 through May 7, 2027. Salary and costs are covered by the Waukesha County Sheriff's Office. Upon successful completion of the Law Enforcement Academy, candidates must then successfully complete the Department's Field Training program. Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • United States citizen.
  • At least 18 years of age.
  • Sixty (60) credits of post high school education (associate degree level or higher) from an accredited university, college or technical school, preferably in criminal justice, police science, business or public administration, or the social sciences must be attained by October 1, 2026.
  • Ability to possess a firearm.
  • No felony convictions.
  • Possession of a valid driver's license.
  • Successful completion of a Physical Readiness Test (PRT).
  • Possess the physical and mental abilities to perform the essential job functions.
  • Subject to an extensive background check and a polygraph examination.
  • Successfully completing a psychological evaluation, medical examination, and a drug test.
  • Must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis.

Responsibilities

  • Attend and successfully complete an 18-week Law Enforcement Academy.
  • Successfully complete the Department's Field Training program upon academy completion.
  • Perform essential job functions as listed in the Deputy Sheriff ADA Essential Functions Worksheet.
  • Pass a department-administered Physical Ability Test (PAT) annually.
  • Maintain the ability to possess a firearm.
  • Maintain a valid driver's license.
