About The Position

Waukesha County is accepting applications on a continuous basis from experienced law enforcement applicants, certified law enforcement applicants, and individuals currently attending a law enforcement academy. The role involves becoming a Deputy Sheriff within the Waukesha County Sheriff's Department. Starting pay for candidates with no experience is at least $36.60/hr, effective December 27, 2025, with experienced hires having their pay determined based on their background. The position offers comprehensive benefits and opportunities for lateral transfers, including higher starting wages, vacation, and sick time for those with at least three years of full-time certified law enforcement experience within the last 48 months. The selection process is thorough, including application review, interviews, background checks, physical ability testing, polygraph, psychological and medical evaluations, and drug tests. Requirements

  • At least 18 years of age
  • United States Citizen
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Sixty (60) credits of post high school education (associate degree level or higher) from an accredited university, college or technical school
  • Ability to possess a firearm
  • No felony convictions
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Sworn law enforcement experience, eligible for certification as a law enforcement professional in the State of Wisconsin (graduated from a law enforcement academy), or individuals currently attending a law enforcement academy
  • If an out-of-state law enforcement officer, must have reciprocity exam scheduled at the time of application and pass the exam prior to being hired
  • Possess the physical and mental abilities to perform the essential job functions as listed in the Deputy Sheriff ADA Essential Functions Worksheet
