The Prince George County Sheriff's Department is now accepting applications for the position of Deputy Sheriff. This position will be responsible for ensuring courtroom and courthouse security, enforcing courtroom rules and regulations, transporting inmates, serving civil papers, and serving capiases. The role involves ensuring the safety of judges and individuals in the courtroom through observation of behavior, conducting building security checks, screening incoming people and personal items, searching courtrooms for weapons, setting up video equipment for hearings, searching prisoners to be escorted to courtrooms, escorting prisoners from lock-up to courtrooms and back, applying restraints as needed, carrying objects for visiting judges into the courtroom, completing financial statements for those needing an attorney, serving subpoenas, warrants, orders of arrest and other official court papers (both criminal and civil), executing eviction notices, assisting the Clerk of Court with the transfer of files to and from the courtroom, transporting prisoners to other jurisdictions, supporting the Police Department on calls for service, escorts, and traffic controls when needed (including radar and enforcement of traffic laws), making arrests, testifying in court, preparing reports, and participating in emergency response operations as required in a declared emergency by County officials. Completing required NIMS training is a condition of employment. A valid Virginia Driver's License is required. Performs related tasks as required.
