About The Position

The Harrison County Sheriff’s Office in West Virginia is seeking applications for the position of Deputy Sheriff to continue its commitment in policing for the citizens of Harrison County with integrity, honor, and pride. Harrison County Deputy Sheriffs are state certified and sworn police officers that exercise the same authority as all other Law Enforcement agencies under WV Law. With opportunities for advancement, ongoing training and the ability to work in specialized units such as SWAT, K-9, Detective Unit, Judicial and Drug Youth Outreach. Deputies are given the means to grow within the Harrison County Sheriff’s Office. Patrol units are assigned to Harrison County, WV to observe people and property to reduce and prevent criminal activities. (10 hour shifts with a (4) day work week to include the (3) following monthly rotating shifts 0600hrs-1600hrs, 1400hrs-0000hrs, and 2200hrs-0800hrs) Work Hours: Varies (Opportunities for overtime through special details including athletic events, construction site escorts, extra patrol for municipalities, and Governor’s Highway Safety Program.) Requirements

  • Valid driver's license
  • High School diploma or GED
  • Age 18 at time of application
  • Drug testing and medical management required.
  • Selected candidate(s) must successfully complete a pre-employment psychological evaluation and polygraph test before official hire date.
  • Selected candidate(s) must successfully complete a pre-employment physical examination requirements to be able to attend the WVSP Academy.
  • Applicants who do not possess a WV Law Enforcement certification must attend and complete West Virginia Basic Law Enforcement Academy within one year of hire date.
  • Must be bondable upon background check.
  • Applicant must pass physical agility testing (PAT) prior to taking the written examination.
  • Sit-ups: 28 in one minute
  • Push-ups: 18 in one minute
  • Mile and half run: 14 minutes and 36 seconds
  • Active WV Certified Officers are only required to take the written examination

Responsibilities

  • Patrol units are assigned to Harrison County, WV to observe people and property to reduce and prevent criminal activities.
