About The Position

The Napa County Sheriff's Department is seeking motivated individuals to join their team as Deputy Sheriff Trainees. This is the entry-level classification for a career in law enforcement within Napa County. As a trainee, you will attend a certified Peace Officer Standards and Training (P.O.S.T.) Basic Police Academy, which involves intensive instruction on law enforcement procedures and rigorous physical fitness training. Upon successful completion of the academy, you will be sworn in as a peace officer, appointed to the Deputy Sheriff I classification, and begin a one-year probationary period. Requirements

• Must have a verifiable P.O.S.T Pellet-B T-Score of 42 or higher, issued no earlier than one year before application.
• Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
• Must be at least 20 1/2 years of age at the time of application submission.
• Must have a valid California driver's license (or a valid driver's license for your current state of residence if an out-of-state applicant, with the ability to obtain a California license).
• Must have a High School diploma or G.E.D.
• Must be able to provide proof of age requirement (21 years of age at time of hire).
• Must be able to work holidays, weekends, graveyard shifts, and irregular hours.
• Must be able to pass a comprehensive background investigation and polygraph.
• Must be able to pass a pre-employment physical, drug test, and psychiatric evaluation.
• Persons convicted of a felony are disqualified from employment as peace officers, with specific exceptions.
• Must possess any combination of experience and education that would likely produce the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

Nice To Haves

• Equivalent to completion of two years of college is highly desired.

Responsibilities

• Attend the basic Police Academy to prepare for the duties and responsibilities of a Deputy Sheriff.
• Undergo intensive instruction on law enforcement procedures.
• Engage in rigorous physical fitness training.
• Upon academy completion, be sworn in as a peace officer.
• Be appointed to the Deputy Sheriff I classification.
• Complete a one (1) year probationary period.
• Potentially pivot from regular duties to provide critical services during emergencies as a Disaster Service Worker.
